    3. Thank you Patricia, I only found out about this cousin through another cousin by marriage, Neil, in Poole, Dorset, UK a few days ago. Neil's wife's Nanna is Herbert's sister. She is now 94 and would like to find out what happened to her brother. After he was placed in Barnardo's in the UK, the family having known 'Herbert' as Bert or Herbert Cameron WARD, was then informed that Bertram/Bertrum Cameron WARD had been sent to Australia in 1922 on board the SS Ballarat. I am an ex Barnardo child myself and came here as a 12 year old in 1951 to 'help populate Australia or Australia would perish' as quoted by Mr. Jack Caldwell. At the age of 16 Herbert/Bertram/Bertrum would have been too old to be placed into an actual Children's Home (possibly Mowbray Park at Picton, NSW) as he would have been of workable age. He was possibly sponsored by the Malone's or a similar family on the land as a farm labourer. I have a set of 3 CD's (very generously GIVEN to me by a fellow Lister) and I have searched them every which-way with different arrangements of 'Bert's' names and have come up with nothing. No Marriage or Death Record for NSW that is. As he came here in 1922 and was in Tumut in 1930 I am now wondering if, maybe, he served during the WW2 and perhaps didn't make it. Or perhaps at a later date he moved to another State. Another possibility is that he changed his name for whatever reason. I know of 2 Barnardo Boys who adopted the surname of the people that they went to work for. So anything is possible. I know I am grasping at straws trying to find him but I would certainly like to make his sister, my 1st cousin, a happy old lady. I will certainly be writing to 'someone' in Tumut to try to trace 'Bert. Thanks again. HOPE YOU ARE ALL ENJOYING THE DAY. GOD BLESS. Hilda Cooper, Sydney

    3. Thanks MargaretB, Tumut is down in the Snowy Mountains Area and Portland and Lithgow are just over the Blue Mtns. My brother lives at Lidsdale near Lithgow. I did see the ones that you mention, thank you. There is a marriage record for a Herbert Bertram WARD in Leeton in 1951 and Leeton is in the Griffith area, further west from Tumut. I will await a reply from Tumut FHG and from the UK. Thanks again. Hilda >
