Hi Rosa I am sorry to tell you that the pages which I photocopied start with the surname CAMPBELL and end with the surname ROBERTS. I have eleven pages which have two columns of burials on each page. Sorry to get your hopes up! Mary and listers, I didn't want to step on your toes or butt in after the generous offer you made for look-ups, but I do have a copy of the complete burial index (on fiche) for Balmain General Cemetery. As Tony Moore said, Patrick Callaghan is trying to find those buried in the Balmain Roman Catholic Cemetery. I have my name registered with the Australian Cemeteries site as available to do look-ups. Copies of the fiche are also available at the State Library in Sydney, the Society of Australian Genealogists (SAG) in Sydney, and possibly at other research centres as well. I am happy to check the entries for anyone - with the provisos that: 1. unless the surname is quite unusual, requests please be for specific people (not, as someone once asked me "could you please give me details on anyone with name of Jones" - no I can't and won't) and be within the time frame 1868-1912 2. those requesting information at least have the courtesy to say thank you. The cemetery opened in 1868 and closed in 1912. The entries can be quite informative. The information given on the fiche includes: number in the register name of deceased date of death/burial occupation (rarely given) denomination (CofE, Presbyterian mainly ) abode age undertaker's name size of plot remarks column (this can often include a cross-referenced number indicating another possible family member buried nearby) I will be sending a separate email to Rosa re her SINNETT family as there are some listed. Happy new year to all listers - and please don't swamp me with requests! Greetings Alison and congratulations on your most generous offer, I may well have occasion to accept your generous offer myself from time to time, however, could I ask a big favour, should you receive any inquiries where the inquirer has some evidence of burial at Balmain cemetery, maybe a DC, and the person sought is not listed on your microfilm, would you be so kind as to pass them on to me, I have found several burials where the DC simply states the place of burial as Balmain and where in fact the person concerned was interred in the Balmain Catholic cemetery, I have a long way to go with my research, having found only about 10% of the probable 2500 (or so) burials atthe Catholic cemetery, so all help most gratefully received,I have also written a history of the Catholic cemetery and it's quite an interesting story All the best Patrick Callaghan PS I am especilly looking for anyone who may have photos of headstones or documentation regarding re-interment to another cemetery ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alison" <wadingbird@bigpond.com> To: <aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 31, 2006 10:55 AM Subject: Re: [ANS] Balmain Cemetery Burial Index > Mary and listers, > > I didn't want to step on your toes or butt in after the generous offer > you made for look-ups, but I do have a copy of the complete burial > index (on fiche) for Balmain General Cemetery.
