    3. Thank you to the kind people who answered me regarding Marrickville Hospital.. Apparently the hospital closed in 1999, but thanks to Laurel for the information that it opened after my ggrandmother died in 1883. The death certificate just said Marrickville Road, Marrickville, she must have died at home, I might try and find out if RPAH have records, maybe she had her operation there. I remember the hospital very well, passing it almost every day on my way to school, etc. in the 40s and 50s, including the day of the Sydenham train smash. I was 14 at the time, and after walking along the tracks to Sydenham Station, I was able to get a tram to Marrickville Hospital, and went to catch a bus home. However, by this time I was crying and very very upset, (as you would be after walking through the results of the crash), and while I was waiting a nurse came out and brought me some sal volatile (which was used for nerves in those days). When I left the district in 1959 when I married it was very run down, so I guess it is time to put it out to pasture. Lesley (late of Marrickville West, but now of the beautiful northern beaches of Sydney)
