Hilda, Oh yes...just give any of us a little hook, and IT IS ON..... I have just bought an old house in Melbourne in one of the older inner suburbs, and have spent this afternoon at the library, looking at the Sands Index. I have found that the family who built the house in 1914, still owned it and lived in it in 1971. Haven't had time to get into the rates books yet to see what happened after 1971. Unfortunately these days you no longer get a big old fashioned Title with a list of all the owners, mortgages etc. All I got was a flimsy piece of A4 paper, only slightly better than photocopy paper. When I enquired....this is it...the actual Title! Have had to store it extremely carefully so I don't shred it one day with the photocopy paper! So now I am curious about them, the O'Brien's - builders and owners of my house for at least 57 years. Won't go so far as a tree of course, but nice to know who was there before.
