Hi Alison Bothwell, I understand, is approximately 75 km from Hobart. A horse travels at walking pace at approximately 5 km per hour. If it were a heavy horse it would walk slower than a light horse and drawing a load such as a cart which might or might not be loaded would have an influence. Taking into account that the road was probably longer in the old days - around hills and through creeks, etc. I would estimate that it would probably take 3 days. It would all depend on the size of the load, the quality of the horse and the state of the road! Rest periods, and again the quality of the horse, and whether the driver was an easy or a hard man with a horse, would also be a part of it. I would say, 25kph with a loaded cart would be somewhere to start, but others may have different opinions. Hope this might be of some help. Cheers Noel
