My grandmother's Kilpatrick family lived in Milsons Point in an end terrace house. I have recently been lent a couple of my grandmother's photo albums, and there are photos of her mother, Louisa nee Rodero, 'at "Navatu" '. Under one of these photos my grandmother has written 'my Mother at Bay Road'. It was a substantial Federation bungalow by the looks of it, with an ornately carved wooden front gate, in that style. The photos would have been taken in the mid 1920s. I'm intrigued because I lived in Bay Road for a time, and have friends living there now. Just wondering if anyone has stumbled across, or has any clues on investigating further? Hi Leith, For what it is worth ... I came across an obscure reference to a street address (c.1915) given as - Navatu, Wollcott Street, off Bay Road, North Sydney, New South Wales. There is a Woolcott Street - off Bay Road - at Waverton, which may be worth following up. Google maps will take you there - http://maps.google.com.au HTH Diane Hills District Nth West Sydney -------------------------------------------------- From: "Leith Davis" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2010 10:31 AM To: <[email protected]> Subject: [ANS] "Navatu", Bay Road North Sydney/Waverton? > My grandmother's Kilpatrick family lived in Milsons Point in an end > terrace > house. wow Diane, that must be the same house - I thought it would be such a needle in a haystack, it seems nothing short of miraculous that someone else has come across it thank you Leith On Wed, Nov 3, 2010 at 3:34 PM, Diane <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Leith, > > For what it is worth ... I have checked Google maps and yes - it also explains another photo/postcard in Nana's album. There is a view across parkland and the harbour with one naval ship in the foreground to the right, another in the background to the left. Woolcott St crosses Bay Road to parkland and the harbour just next to HMAS Waterhen (wouldn't have been 'Waterhen' then but bet was naval land). I'd say 'Navatu' was very close to Bay Road and the harbour. I was always under the impression that both Nana's parents lived in the terrace house at Milsons Point until their deaths in the early 1930s - I will have to revisit the library and the Post Office Directories :) Leith On Wed, Nov 3, 2010 at 5:03 PM, Leith Davis <[email protected]> wrote: > wow Diane, that must be the same house - I thought it would be such a > needle in a haystack, it seems nothing short of miraculous that someone else > has come across it > > thank you > Leith > > > On Wed, Nov 3, 2010 at 3:34 PM, Diane <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Hi Leith, >> >> For what it is worth ...
