Further to my suggestion that the girls father may have been a soldier I looked up the Regimental Birth Index and found the following: Mary A REYNOLD, Sydney 1858 12th regiment vol 954 page 53 Sarah J REYNOLDS Sydney 1863 12th Regiment vol 954 page 81 It looks like these are your births which were registered with the Regiment but not in baptism or civil records at the time. There is a record of a Thomas Reynolds serving in the 12th Regiment in Australia but so far I haven't identified him in the Chelsea Pensioner records. He MAY have changed regiments and there are quite a lot of Thomas Reynolds to search through. I'll let you know if I find anything further. Jenny W [who has a soldier ancestor]
