Dear Margaret, The Divorce file at State Records has an Affidavit in it that the last Eva Edith POMEROY heard of her husband was in 1903 at COONABARRABRAN where he was working on farms. They married at MOREE. Her Affidavit indicates that she did not know any of his family, and it appeared that as far as she knew he had no family in Australia. Her Affidavit for Divorce says that after payment of her debts she was not "worth Twenty Five Pounds" and I suspect that may have been the amount of assets that determined how much one paid for process of Divorce. I also saw an Affidavit where a Sheriff went to a hotel in the Newcastle area to try to serve papers on him, however he had left the hotel and could not be located before boarding a train. Hi fellow listers, Should I ask Santa for a subscription to Genes Reunited or Find my past. Perhaps there might be something even better. The 1911 census is an attraction. He gave me a subscription to Ancestry last year and this has been very helpful. Thanks in anticipation. Laraine
Hi Laraine, I have been a financial member of genesreunited for about four years. It keeps my grey matter active all year which helps keep alsheimers at bay. The members there are a happy lot and are always willing to pitch in and help break down brick walls. I sometimes find members are aware of one of my ancestors who is not on their direct line so they have not got them on their tree. Often they have information about them though, that they are willing to share. At about $20.00 AUD I recommend it as the most cost effective method of doing genealogy and it is a very cheap Christmas or birthday present. Regards Max Bancroft Should I ask Santa for a subscription to Genes Reunited
Hi Laraine, Whilst cheap, I was very disappointed with GenesReunited. You can't just view everyone's tree and have to send an email to make initial contact. Then, if they see fit, they decide if they will let you see their tree or not. In my experience, most of the people I contacted, did not reply. I assume this is because a) their subscription had expired or b) they don't visit the site very often. FindmyPast is a good resource. I usually just 'pay as I go', as I didn't feel I'd get my money's worth out of a subscription. Though you can waste a lot of money, looking at Parish records, as the search results don't provide the child's parent's names. So it's not until you pay, that you will see the parent's names and find out it's not the child you want. :p So then it might be better to have a Subscription, if you intend to look at a lot of BDM's. It is a good site to tie up loose ends, for shipping or that obscure BDM that you can't find. :) If I were going to take out a subscription, I would only take out the 6 mths sub, as you should be able to cover a lot of ground in 6mths. The 88.95 pounds works out to approx. $142.60. Kind regards, Sherrie. -- http://www.silkweb.com.au/ On Sat, 11 Dec 2010 15:24:43 +1100, K & L Goodworth <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi fellow listers, > > Should I ask Santa for a subscription to Genes Reunited or Find my past. > Perhaps there might be something even better.
