You might find other news about this ships too http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home > advanced search In NSW State Records on line indexes these is a shipping arrivals one 1837 -1925 Also be worth looking in the NAA http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx under passenger lists 1921 -1950 or via a name search in immigration files Findmypast UK migration data base has departure info from 1890 -1960 but thats not a free site bye MargM Sydney List Admin
Hi Robert: Hi: I have some credits left at: http://www.findmypast.co.uk/welcome.jsp First, I found the name of a random passenger on that ship thru Ancestry, then I looked her up at findmypast: Name: Mrs Elizabeth ADAMS Date of departure: 16 September 1914 Port of departure: London Passenger destination port: Sydney, Australia Passenger destination: Sydney, Australia Date of Birth: 1891 (calculated from age) Age: 23 Marital status: Sex: Female Occupation: Married Passenger recorded on: Page 17 of 29 Ship: Borda Official Number:135340 Master's name: G A Millington Steamship Line: P & O Branch Service Where bound: Australia Square feet: 21510 Registered tonnage: 7036 Passengers on voyage: 974 Then I looked at the ship's manifest on Ancestry. The heading on the top of the passenger manifest says: "A List of Crew and Passengers arrived in the Ship Borda, Registered at Greenock, G. A. Millington?, Master, Rurthen?, Gross 11136, Nett 7036 Tons, from the Port of London & Melbourne to Sydney, New South Wales, 9th November, 1914." This is the only ship that you requested that I could find. Good evening Marg in Sunny Alberta, Canada; It would seem that I didn't thank you for the favour you did me (Wed 3 Nov) in using up some of your credits to seek out information from findmypast re my WALTON'S in the Shipping Records, for which I am ever so very grateful and I found most interesting. Please accept my sincere apologies and once again; thank you ever so very ,much. Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY.
I've a James JACKSON said buried Rookwood Cemetery. Born: 1880 Married: 1907 Died: ? His wife: Agnes Annie JACKSON (Nee McMAHON) Died: 1 Feb 1938, also said to be buried Rookwood. I've visited the Rookwood Cemetery site a couple of times now and had to register etc, but I don't seem to be able to get past that point to search? Does anyone else regularly used this site and how do they fare with searching Rookwood? Regards; Robert KEMSLEY
Robert, it appears as though their website must be down for maintenance. I regularly use it as a registered member and tonight is the first time I have had trouble. There is now a message saying "Access temporarily unavailable and we apologise for the inconvenience". I also note that Eastern Suburbs Cemetery are doing maintenance and updating on their website as well. So perhaps you might have to wait a while for your answers. Sorry hope this helps. P.S. I am not associated with the cemetery - just another searcher. Good Luck. Tracey. I've visited the Rookwood Cemetery site a couple of times now and had to register etc, but I don't seem to be able to get past that point to search? James was buried 22/8/1953 77 years they are in section L grave number 196 Hope this helps Linda
Good afternoon Linda; Many thanks indeed for your find. How did you access the Rookwood Site when I cannot, is a puzzle. With your assistance; I now know for sure that both James & Agnes JACKSON are buried Rookwood as advised me by a family member. I also now know approx when James died and was buried; family member thought it to be about 1962, which was a little out. You were good enough to supply me with the burial date for James and the age at death of 77 fits exactly with what I had on him, but what of Wife Agnes? was there mention of when buried or any further info on either of? Family member advised Agnes Died 1 Feb 1938? Once again; thank you ever so very much for your valued assistance. Kindest regards; Robert KEMSLEY
Good morning Marg; Sincere thanks for your response to my posting re Ships arriving Sydney 1914-1951? I did have a quick look at the SMH, but will have to return to for a more detailed search, but; I seem to recall somewhere or other that if you knew the name of the Ship that departed London for example; you could find when it arrived Sydney, but I cannot now recall where to search. I've the following: BORDA Dep London 17 Sep 1914 - Arr Sydney approx 11 Nov 1914? ORANTO Dep London 14 Oct 1949 - Arr Sydney approx 4 Dec 1949 ESPERANCE BAY Dep Southampton 23 Dec 1950 - Arr Sydney approx 12 Feb 1951 The above based on a journey time of approx 52 days? I've also the opposite: I've the ORONTES Dep Sydney approx 1 May 1949 - Arr Southampton 21 Jun 1949 Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY
