I was wondering if there was anywhere online - as I am unable to get to Sydney. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bill Sent: Wednesday, 9 February 2011 7:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ANS] Old Land Titles > Can anyone tell me where I can find out who may have owned a property in > Surry Hills/Moore Park in 1930's and 1940's.
Hi Tracey, You might (??) pick up something by looking at the City of Sydney Assessment Books. Have a read here - http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/AboutSydney/HistoryAndArchives/Archives/ServicesForResearchers/AssessmentBooks.asp Firstly, you need to know what Ward (or boundary) the street/suburb comes under, so follow the Ward Boundary Maps link and then the City Boundaries and Wards link. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select a map from the drop-down menu, closest to what timeframe you are looking for. From there you will find what Ward Surry Hills and Moore Park come under ... it looks to be Flinders. Once you know the Ward, then go back and follow the Assessment Book Data Files link (at the above page), then choose the Ward and the closest year. You never know your luck ! Dear Tracey, Unfortunately a lot of things are not on line, and because of privacy I guess never will be, and property ownership is probably one of them. There is a professional researcher on land matters in particular. If you want her details I will dig them out for you.
