Hallo, I am in the UK. I have found an entry for a Robert PARISH on SS Borda bound for Melbourne and Sydney. I am not sure if he disembarked at Melbourne or stayed on for Sydney. I have joined the Melbourne list for help also. Just wondered if anyone can suggest where I look in Sydney for any records that may mention his name. I have looked on BMD list for marriages/deaths. I would like to know if he landed at Sydney. His date of birth was July 1887. Born in Middlesex UK. His parents were Alfred and Anne E Parish. He had brothers and sisters in UK and I know what happened to all of them. Any help would be very much appreciated. Regards from Jackie.

Jackie, PROV (Public Record Office of Victoria) has some indexes online for immigration http://www.prov.vic.gov.au (go to "access the collection" and then to "digitised records and online indexes") There are quite a few entries for PARISH into Victoria, with four entries for those arriving on the "Borda": Mr R Parish in 1914 (age 27) (reference: Port B: Fiche 900; Page 005) and what appears to be a family arriving in 1921 - Mr A age 39, Mrs E age 39 and Master W age 6 (references Port B: Fiche 942: Page 010) As you say you've joined the Melbourne list perhaps someone in Melbourne who can access the records could check the details for you - they are probably on findmypast but their terms and conditions prohibit look-ups for others, so I can't help there. I can't see him listed in the Victorian BDM indexes - certainly no marriage to 1920 and not listed up to 1985 as dying in Victoria. NSW BDM indexes can be searched free here: http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ I couldn't see a death for him there up to 1980 (which is as far as the indexes on public access go due to privacy restrictions) ancestry.com.au have some Australian electoral rolls online and may be worth checking.
