    3. Good evening Marg; Yes; I would have thought that a Divorce in Sydney would have appeared in the SMH, but if so; in this case; it doesn't seem to be the case? I've a message back from "Ask a Librarian" this evening and they cannot find such a Divorce which I do know took place, as I've the paperwork concerning from the Supreme Court and also have the Newspaper Clipping surrounding the details leading up to the Divorce, but unfortunately; I was only young at the time and didn't record from which Newspaper it was taken or the date it appeared; both I am seeking to ascertain without success. I am also very surprised that on finding a Divorce Index exists and have since searched; finding there is record of the divorce, which I do know; took place> Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY >>> Best ask the NSW SL ! 3. Dear Robert, It must be remembered that these papers have been copied a couple of times now, and some of the Optical Character Recognition is not the best. In effect that means that if searching for SMITH and the "I" is deformed, or blotted as so many old papers are, then a name search will not turn that name up. To give an example when I was arranging the indexing of the 1880's SMH for the Ryerson Index a friend found a Death Notice in one of the Supplementary lists that went to the UK, but that notice did not come up where it should have been originally published. On finding the name in the Supplementary List he returned to the day mentioned and found the entry there. One letter being deformed, stopped him finding it originally, so I suspect that this is the case with your notice. On that basis, you probably need to go through the notices in the papers day by day for that period you know the date for, having the papers. Sincerely, Bill > > Yes; I would have thought that a Divorce in Sydney would have appeared > in the SMH, but if so; in this case; it doesn't seem to be the case? > > I've a message back from "Ask a Librarian" this evening and they cannot > find such a Divorce which I do know took place, as I've the paperwork > concerning from the Supreme Court and also have the Newspaper Clipping > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

It might also be at State Records, Sydney office at The Rocks. Have never looked it up there > >> Or NSW State Records out at Kingswood have a divorce index on a large set >> of fiche to 1974.
