I'm trying to establish his parents, I know he was a grandson of Hugh. I have photos of Bobby Monteith and and address in Mosman (not the same as the address in the electoral roll, he could have moved). What I know is that Hugh Monteith married Sarah Anne Griffin in New York in 1867. In 1880 they had children Anna, Grace, Sarah, Robert and Hugh. The whole family moved to Chile where Hugh worked as a nitrate miner. The descendants I am sharing information with are descendants of Hugh's daughter Grace. They moved back and forth to the UK, there are entries on shipping lists, and often children were sent back to the UK to boarding school, etc, in the care of other relatives on board ship, so I may know the names of cousins , nephews etc without being able to attach them to parents. We currently believe that Hugh's son Robert was the father of Robert Hugh, and that Robert Hugh was born in Liverpool around 1917- 1919 (there is a birth registration on freebmd). Members of the family often gave Liverpool addresses on shipping lists, there seem to have been friends of the family there. The mother's surname on that particular index entry is Booth. She may have been Sarah, I have an early photo labelled "Robert and Sarah Monteith". Of course I could have the wrong Robert Hugh Monteith, he may either have left Sydney, or died after 1980, in which case he wouldn't show up on the death indexes on line. Dear Catherine, It appears that the death information came from the Ryerson Index, www.ryersonindex.org The Ryerson Index currently indexes notices from the major papers in most states, and while the official index may end at 1980 on line the Ryerson Index from the Sydney Morning Herald, prepared from the actual notices, is up to date to the end of last year, with a full run from 1967, and fairly well covered from 1955. You will also find some deaths in different years way back to the very early papers in the 1830's. The Back Indexing Team of the Ryerson Index indexed the 1958 paper, and I have sent a copy of the notice off list, as the list does not take attachments. Sincerely, Bill PS. Note the tag line. >> Please remember to snip most of the earlier message before you post any >> reply...... Thanks Bill, Although there is not much information given, the age of 86 for Robert Monteith who died in 1958, and the tag "Glasgow papers please copy" led me to a likely Robert Monteith, born in Glasgow, son of Robert Monteith and Agnes Shearer. At this point, I have no indication that he links to "my" Monteiths, but I will keep the information in case of finding a connection later.
