    3. Laraine, NSW has three transcription agents who offer transcripts of certificates for around $18 or so (not sure of current price). Details are on the home page of NSW BDM website. A much cheaper option for family historians than the official certificate at almost double the price. 3. Hi Bill, Thanks for the info re Lidcombe Hospital. Problem with this is I'm not sure if the person died there is my rellie or not. I was told that this was right person but the last name is different to what I expected.. I've sent for the death cert (another contribution to the state's coffers, wow, up to $31.AUD now) so that should probably tell me the burial and hopefully confirm relationship. I just wasn't sure if there was a separate burial ground at the hospital itself. The responses helped with my decision to just get the certificate. . 3. Dear Jim, If you can get access to the Sands Directory you may find them there. It was published almost annually 1859 to 1932, reproduced on microfiche, but now some years are also apparently on Ancestry. On the Sydney City Council website there are also the Rate Books. These show both the owner and the tenant, as well as giving details of the land and building. By the way, I had family in Cumberland st at the same time - Thomas and Elizabeth Boulton and their family - he was a stonemason. 3. Hello to all, I am trying to find a potted history of life in Sydney during the period 1855 to about 1890 and would appreciate some help. Whilst a snapshot in general would be welcome I have a particular interest in The Rocks and Circular Quay due to the fact that my people were mariners and lived in Cumberland Street, Queen and George Street area. My interests are SATTERLY, COATES, RUTTER and FERRIER. for that period. Also trying to find the Records of the Catholic Orphanage at Parramatta from about 1854 to about 1855. Have an interest in 3 children named COATES who were transferred from the Randwick Asylum to Parramatta about 1854. I think that the Parramatta Orphanage was initially run by Lay people on behalf of the Catholic Church for a period. Jim Brisbane
