If it helps my greatgrandfather adopted his illegitmate daughter with another wife - not the mother and it was done through the court process in Perth in 1918, the girl was about 8 at the time with consent of the birth mother, most likely as she had another three children by that time. Hope you can find what you are looking for. 3. Hello Pete, if you make an appointment with DOCS they may be able to help you with adoptions. About 1920 NSW adoptions were formalized into law. Prior to that babies were simply given away to childless couples which DOCS now refer to as being a "Back door adoption" . Though the law was formalized, back door adoptions continued unofficially into the 1930s. Regards Max Bancroft Re : Adoption in Sydney in early 1957 I've been doing family history research for over 10 years, but have never Done any work on adoptions. Is there anyone on the list with experience reseaching adoptions in NSW who Might be able to give me a few tips?

    3. Pete, U.K. and Australia Adoptions Laws began around 1920's...google Australian and or U.K. Adoption Laws..you may get a better time frame. For example we could not follow one family in the U.K. past the Grandfather had his marriage and death certificates but couldn't find a birth...found that he was born under another name..married and died under his step fathers name.. 3. Dear List I have tried and failed to find out when Arthur WEBB b. 1885 Oldbury Worcestershire, emigrated to Australia. I know that his parents and siblings remained in GB so assume he went there alone. He married Florence Elizabeth RANKIN at Casino NSW in 1907 and she was born in Australia. I'd like to know the vessel and date of his arrival which I again assume was Sydney. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Regards Rob Halesowen GB

A brief thanks for the info augers better than crossing posting on another mailing list with near enough the same questions Bye MargM Sydney List Admin
