Of course, babes adopted by strangers soon after birth often have <nil> info re their birth parents. Familiar problem!! A Birth Cert for a living middle- aged man in my neighbourhood was refused! by the NSW BDM registrar. Reason, they said there was NO NSW Index or Register entry corresponding to the birth info in his Application. Eventually, the "parents" names, the couple he called Mum and Dad, turned out to be his <<grandparents>>. As a child, he had always noticed that they seemed very much older than the parents of his school friends. His biological mother was in fact their unmarried daughter whom he was told was his 'big sister'. For many years he lived with this caring "big sister" unaware she was his true mother. You can guess what fuss and misery followed in the facts ultimately collected, as he researched the story at a local FH Centre and pestered distant rellies for info. The middle aged "victim" in this account, was not crippled by the new-found knowledge. He was eventually active in NSW politics. Alistair ======== BCC recipient YKW.... No Reply thanks.

Hi again Jenny It makes sense what you said about he may have broken the law in the UK as he was convicted of sheep stealing when he was living her in 1882, he served 6 months as he didn't want to pay the 50 pound fine, it would be interesting to find more detail on that. 3. Hi Jenny Thanks for your reply, yes his marriage certificate states he was a 24 year old labourer, hs father John STAR was a farmer, his mother's name is Ann WRIGHT. He was married on North Logan Farm 25 November 1861 which is near Cowra his wife Maria Jane Gooda/Goody was a servant aged 17, she didn't know her mothers name and the place she gave for her birth is incorrect and fathers name is incorrect. The witness to the marriage was Andrew McClymont and Helen Sloan who I believed owned (or one of he owners) of North Logan farm. I have three birth certs of his children and they all state Charles seniors birth place as Cambridgeshire or just England. You would think that he knew who his parents were wouldn't you!! His death certificate states that he was from Cambridgeshire and that his parents were John Star and Mary WRIGHT and that he was in NSW for 40 years which tied in with what I find on the immigration records for him arriving in NSW in 1857, but could be wrong. Many thanks for your help and input. Kind regards Dianna

    3. I am endeavouring to Transcribe Australian Cemetery Records for Family Search and whilst I am more than happy to do so and have completed a previous batch of only 20 names with no problems; this current Batch is of approx 1,517 names and is causing me no end of problems in that it is slowing the computer right down as well as other programs running at the same time. I have closed all programs expect the Transcribing Program and still; the Program itself slows the computer down so that you are waiting minutes at times, for it to do anything and at this rate; I will never, ever; finish Transcribing the Cemetery Records. Has any fellow lister done such transcribing and can provide a solution? Regards: Robert KEMSLEY

    1. Re: [ANS] Charles Starr's marriage certificate
    2. J. Fawcett
    3. If Charles Star was born in Victoria in 1837, then he would number among the first born europeans in Port Phillip district, and there should be a record of his birth/baptism or family, in contemporary records. If he lied about being born in Victoria, then he had reason to not want to admit that he was born elsewhere,, for example, he might have already been married as Charles Star from Cambridge, and he didn't want to be identified as that man in a second (bigamous) marriage. Or he might have been wanted by the Law, Charles' death certificate was filled in by another person, not Charles. So the information on it will only be what that Informant knew, or was told by family/friends. So a marriage certificate is sometimes viewed as a more reliable document as Charles himself would have filled it in. Also, the birth certificates of his children might yield further clues about his age/place of origin etc. So starting with the marriage certificate, can you say what occupation he held, where he married, and who his parents were on that marriage certificate, and who was the witnesses? cheers Jenny -----Original Message----- From: dianna charles Sent: Saturday, August 11, 2012 10:26 AM To: aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com Subject: [ANS] Charles Starr's marriage certificate HI I have a very confusing family history situation with the above. 3. Personally I am a fan of Full Disclosure. But everyone will have different opinions on that. I expect that people run things to make money, that is life, but I think consumers are astute and like to trust processes and so for me I think it relevant to know the motives behind why someone does something. Especially when they are selling access to public records, which rather might be a duty of the Governments that hold those records, by law, for and of people. I guess Governments can't allow exclusive licences to particular religious denomination, as they would be a fraught with issues. In regards to Spectrum I guess the question is - are the shareholders also members of the Mormon denomination and if so would that would mean the Mormons own Ancestry, and thus the Government is giving exclusive licences to a particular denomination? For example, would we, the public, approve of our Governments to give an exclusive right to sell access to our public records to say, (and this only an example) Buddhists, Islamic groups, Catholics, Protestants or Athiests. Would we be happy with any of these making profit from our countries public records. I believe I read that Ancestry are moving their headquarters to Ireland, so I am assuming the Governments there have approved a sell of public records access there. Might be good news for us consumers, but just as a thought, would it not behove those Governments to create employment for their own people, by enabling Irish organisations to access and make available those records, for a profit of course as does Spectrum. Create employment, generate cash flow for the country, and re-connect communities. Or is it as one dear friend described it: The Celtic Tiger Was Shot For Its Coat! 3. Alan, from what I am seeing on Spectrum's webpage, they are not the "owners" of Ancestry, but shareholders, according to their webpage. They provided initial finance in 2003, and then partnered with management to purchase a majority interest in 2007 with an 11 member syndicate deal. http://www.spectrumequity.com/investment-approach/case-studies/#AncestrycomInc Case Studies Ancestry.com, Inc. Ancestry is the leading provider of online family history information with more than 1.7 million paying subscribers and more than 7 billion searchable records and a public company (NASDAQ: ACOM). Spectrum made an initial minority investment in 2003 that provided liquidity to early shareholders, and then we partnered with management in 2007 to purchase a majority interest, assembling an 11 member lender syndicate to finance the majority deal. We have supported a number of operational improvements including refining pricing and packaging, enhancing the core product, and expanding customer acquisition channels. In addition, we have recruited a CEO, CFO, SVP Product, VP Corporate Development, and four outside board directors to the company and worked with management to complete three strategic acquisitions in 2010. Finally, we have been active partners in helping the company access the capital markets, assisting management through a $100 million IPO in November 2009, a $100 million secondary offering November 2010, and another $183 million secondary offering May 2011. www.ancestry.com -----Original Message----- From: J.
