    1. [ANS] NSW POLICE GAZETTES - COLES Charles
    2. mvs
    3. Hi List I found something in the NSW Police Gazette last night about my grt. grandfather (at least I think it's him - certainly fits). In July 1914 there is a Warrant out for him by the children's court Bench for child desertion. It gives a description and states he's a Showman which he was, aged 45 (that fits). The Complainant is Frances Hiddlestone of 14 Gordon Street, Paddington. I Googled the name and came up with a WW1 Australian Army record for Francis Edward John Hiddlestone, 14 Gordon Street, Paddington, aged 34 in 1915. It's the same address but I can't find a birth for a child in NSW after 1911 for either Coles or Hiddlestone as one can only search until 1911. I'm also wondering if the complainant Frances should be Francis as in male not female. I looked for a Marriage for Frances Hiddlestone and found one for Francis E Hiddlestone marrying Annie J Molloy in Sydney in 1912. Perhaps it was her child and her new husband decided to seek child support. So, I'm hoping someone out there can help me with this puzzle. Dear old grt gramps (Charles Coles), married in 1915 in Brisbane to his second (that we know of) partner/wife - wonder if she knew!! The more I find out about this man the prouder I'm getting - not. Cheers Marcelle Western Australia

    3. Sorry Alistair, I thought that this is an appropriate way to talk of historical issues, especially the preservation of such structures. A lot of us don't do Facebook or Twitter. Yes it is a shame that it has got to this state of disrepair but if we don't chat about such things more will disappear. I am proud of our heritage and this list has helped me in many ways by talking about people and issues just like this. Thanks for your input, I respect your views and I will say no more on this topic............................Jenni -----Original Message----- From: aus-nsw-sydney-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-nsw-sydney-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Alistair Cameron Sent: Sunday, 14 October 2012 2:17 PM To: aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com Cc: Judith Rowling Subject: Re: [ANS] Lennox Bridge, Parramatta needs your help Thanks to Jenni and Alison for illuminating this topic. 3. Mary, I guess the only way to put our case forward is to keep at them via email. Like most people on this list my forbears where instrumental in building this county with hard work, and a vision for the future for family members to enjoy. I am recently back from a trip to the UK and was absolutely in awe at their history and how they present and preserve it. This in turn has been a great way to make a lot of money as the tourists really want to see those kind of attractions. Preserve it and show it to it's advantage and encourage people to come and see some of OUR history! 3. Dear Listers I read your comments with interest from far-off England. Jenni's visit to the UK may have left her in awe of our history and how it's presented, but we are suffering the same as you from 'do-gooders' and/or politicians who see their idea of progress as something better than our heritage. We must learn from history and preserve the culture of our homelands, respecting those who went before us and whatever small part they played. I don't know anything about Lennox Bridge, but it sounds like a good cause to me, so more power to your elbow!
