    3. Dear Tracey, I get at least half a dozen of these every day. Months back I sent them to Westnet, my server, and they said while they try to prevent spam, it is difficult. They gave me their address for spam, so now I forward them all on to them. It has reduced the volume, I think, but I still get plenty. Regards, Bill > I know this slightly off topic, however the email address I use here is > only for this purpose. 3. You are lucky you found that burial ... I had my ggg grandfather Michael RICE, buried in the Sydney burial ground (prob under central station) .. and I cannot for the life of me find out where they moved him to .. he was buried in 1860. Maree

    3. Tracey, funny you should mention this. I generally find that for a few days after I've made a posting to one of the lists there's an increase in the amount of spam mail I get. I think it may be the "spam robots" trawling through everything online, including the rootsweb archives, to gather email addresses. I wouldn't worry too much - just delete them as you've been doing - they'll stop after a few days - but will probably begin again when you make another posting. 3. Tracey As our email addresses are in the public domain as it were, every 'Tom, Dick & Harry' can find them and use them to no good purpose. Continue deleting them all - there's no way your bank would contact you in such a way. If a message sounds too good to be true (you've won $1 million) then it mostly likely is! 3. Hi all I had ten yesterday.....which doesn't happen often, as I have a really good spam filter, so that was odd. I always delete them without opening at all. . It makes me sad to see just how evil, greedy and deceitful the rest of the world is. It has nothing to do with poverty, as I grew up in a poor family, yet we never stole from anyone. It has everything to do with greed and envy........shame on them! 3. I am extremely vigilant online, and since I became a victim of a scam a few weeks ago even more so. Problem is these wretched people are becoming so clever even the most careful of us are potentially a target. I only use this address now for the not so important mail and with many changes.  My address book was stolen, fortunately, as far as I am aware, nobody was foolish enough to respond to the demands for money, but it was a nuisance sending out apologies and changing addresses    This mail provider, however, is very good at putting all suspicious/spam into the spam folder, even some that's not.  I think we can recognise some of the potentially suspicious mail.  Since I was infiltrated I never leave any site I have visited with a password open once I have finished with it even if I will need it again later.  I always delete my browsing at the end of the day, sometimes during the day if I have happened upon a site I am not happy with and even run a short anti-virus scan at the same time.   D

    3. Tracey, Agnes's death certificate should list her place of burial, but she was buried in the RC section at Sandhills, the old Devonshire Street cemetery; she died 25 February 1862, and when the railway line was put through in 1901 she was re-interred at Bunnerong (cemetery across the road from Botany Cemetery at Matraville). 2. I am trying to find information about where a cemetery woud be. I have a funeral notice from Sydney Morning Herald , February 1862 that says: - " the procession to move from his residence Gloucester Street, THIS DAY (Thursday), at a quarter to 3 o'clock. REUBEN THOMAS Undertaker, 141 York Street, near the Weslyan Chapel". The information I have on Agnes Wilson (whose funeral it was - notice is written by her husband George) from the records of baptisms of the children etc, that she was Catholic, however I think George was Presbyterian - I have searched the Catholic Board, Rookwood and Botany records and cannot find anything. Does anyone have any idea where the she would have been buried as the notice doesn't say. Regards. Tracey.

    3. Hi Bill Thanks for looking at the Probate Index. Charles died Intestate in Culcairn and the Public Trustee Administered what little he left behind. I have a copy of that document and as there was no mention of his wife receiving anything I wrote a letter asking about further information. I received a letter back asking me what interest I had in the matter, was I a Beneficiary. They also told me that for them to give me any info I would be required to pay them $198.00. I was flabbergasted. Had they said $50-70 I may have but I'm not paying them all that money when in the first instance, all the papers should have been together including any disbursements to his wife as next of kin. Needless to say I haven't bothered. Cheers, Marcelle

    3. Dear Marcelle, Just out of interest I looked at the NSW Probate Index which I have on fiche. He does not appear to be there. There are quite a few COLES entries, dozen or so, and you should find them on www.records.nsw.gov.au Sincerely, Bill > I'll do as you suggest. 1. Re: [ANS] NSW POLICE GAZETTES - COLES Charles
    2. Bill
    3. Dear Marcelle, If he was arrested by virtue of the warrant then there should be another entry to say that the warrant was executed. This would also give the name of the arresting Police and the date and place of arrest. Even if the complaint was withdrawn, then the warrant would be withdrawn, warranting an entry. You would probably need to go to Kingswood, where there may be a Photo in the Gaol Photo Description Book. If there is one, then it will give you all his previous criminal history too, if he had past charges. Gaol sentences have to be six months or over to have an entry in the Police Gazette, where Gaol Photos need not have a sentence restriction on them. Another thing you could do is on TROVE run his name through the Sydney Morning Herald. Unlike today several Children's Court matters were reported in the colums Central Police Court, Water Police Court or some suburban ones sometimes. Problem is that it could also be under some other heading too, if the journalist decided it was worthy of reporting, as a story rather than just the list of names in the Court list. Unfortunately some of the print in the SMH is not the best, so if one letter is defective in print in any way, it does not come up. That aside, this is a wonderful resource. Sincerely, Bill > > I found something in the NSW Police Gazette last night about my grt. > grandfather (at least I think it's him - certainly fits). 2. Hi, am not on Ancestry - intend to when I time lets me but I would truly love someone who has access to the NSW Police Gazettes to look up for me the death of Catherine MCKAY. She died 3 April 1857 aged 30 in Albury. She was from a big family and it has always surprised me that her death cert has a lot of 'not known' on it. Then I remember vaguely someone telling me there was in inquest into her death 6 - 9 month after she died. Am wondering if there is any mention of this in the gazettes? I have been searching information on her for many years eg; Albury Family Hist. Minister D.H. Ballantyne I have my fingers firmly crossed!! With thanks Colleen Central Coast

A special book has been written by Patrick Lindsay which is over an inch thick. 3. Hi Bill. I'll do as you suggest. Last night I just couldn't look any more as I'd gone cross-eyed with exhaustion! The plot is thickening. If only I could find things about him prior to 1900 but I've had no luck in 25 years of searching.....grrr. What I'm hoping is that if there truly was a child, I hope it's a boy as if I can find a male in my grt grandfather's line then DNA is a possibility. As it stands now, the sons we knew of are dead and he cannot be traced through his female descendants. I have no idea where he came from and only have records from 1900 to 1928 when he died. Being a Showman and sundry other things along the same line, and also living a nomadic life, Charles Coles probably wasn't his real name. I just hope this trail doesn't go cold. Thank you so much for your suggestions and advice. Fantastic. Marcelle Western Australia
