    3. Hi Jane and Doug There are 5 John McCracken deaths on NSW BDM http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=birth s. More information might help with identification. Maybe you've already searched here. 3. Dear Jane and Doug, If these records are true, as shown at: http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=6 SURNAME Firstname AGE EVENTS REMARKS VESSEL MONTH YEAR REEL McCRACKEN Mary 30 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN Agnes 8 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN Mary 7 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN Edward 5 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN Ethel 3 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN John 1 and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 McCRACKEN Elizabeth inft and family Ormuz Nov 1890 2143 then your John McCracken had to arrive at the absolute earliest November 1888 otherwise .......... someone got very lonely in Cuba ! The alternative is that he was known as C McCracken and worked as a fireman on board for a number of ships. You may be able to do some horse-trading by contacting Mary-Ann Warner: http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/search.htm After arriving they lived in Randwick and had one more child: SURNAME MCCRACKEN GIVEN NAME(S) RAYMOND L INDEX YEAR 1895 FATHER JOHN MOTHER MARY A PLACE OF REGISTRATION RANDWICK REGISTRATION YEAR 1895 REGISTRATION NUMBER 16170 Another possible explanation, he was seconded to Cuba as an employee of AGL then that could explain the gap in the kids 1890-1894. Another side-track. .... What year were the gas lights first turned on in Roma, Qld ? Perhaps he got off in Bribsane and sent the family to Sydney to be with relatives.... just a thought. 3. Hi All I'm chasing the name John McCracken. John was an engineer who emigrated from Scotland via Cuba and USA around 1895. His family arrived in Sydney on the ORMUZ in Nov 1895. John was not on the passenger list. John, a gas meter engineer, established street lighting in Cuba. While in Sydney, he continued his profession apparently with the Australian Gas Company. Any information would be appreciated. Jane and Doug Hinton Canberra

    3. I for one, am tired of seeing the tweak messages on this list. I belong to a number of mailing lists and do not have the time, to open a digest to find that it is mostly about tweaking, and not about the subject which I thought was - aus.nsw.sydney to finish this message, I like this format, and did not like the former one, as one had to scroll down, to finally access the messages after a preamble at the beginning. 3. Fortunately there have been FEW requests so far, but frankly i am amazed at the reply. Of course it matters; it is HOUSEKEEPING information; and why would the whole list have to receive any and all housekeepig messages, which basically are between the persons requesting the TWEAK and the LIST MANAGER / ADMINISTRATOR! I write this as a Rootsweb Administrator! For those folks who want to write directly to Marg M in her role as " Sydney List Admin " the CORRECT e-ddress is: AUS-NSW-SYDNEY-admin@rootsweb.com See http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-NSW-SYDNEY.html It is in that format for any and all Mailing Lists at Rootsweb. 3. Hello Patrick I have him as a trustee in a death bed will which has quite a story attached. My father's family have had a long association with Balmain since about 1848, as well as with St Augustine's. I have certificates for priests who were also at St Augustine's. If this information is of interest I will contact your directly once I have gone through my files. Cheers Noel Greeting listers Does anyone have a death certificate which shows a burial at Balmain, where the officiating priest was Father George Dillon, who served at St Augustine's Catholic church in two separate periods 1864 - 1869 and 1878-1881 I am tring to re-create the long lost burial register for the now disappeared Balmain Catholic cemetery and and now using the priests who worked there as a new research point Any help most gratefully receievd and please forward this email to anyone else or other web site which you think may be useful Patrick Callaghan
