Has anyone ever seen an "Unassisted Passage" record, do they have as much information as the "Assisted Passage" records?. I think I have found my GGrandfather coming out on the "Hugh Walker" in 1853. In the remarks column it says "Rio de Janiero, MACKIE in the SMH" so I didn't want to order it if I am only go to get a list of names and no other information. TIA Lynne SA
Diane, Thanks so much for this link. It helps a lot, and I will look closely at the other NLA maps. Hadn't thought to look there! Hi All, If possible, I would like to find where Rose O'Reilly was buried in August 1989. She died in Daceyville, so would she have been buried there? She was born 1895, Bristol, UK; and died 10th August 1989, Daceyville. If anyone comes across her grave and could take a photo or two, it would really be appreciated. I live in Tiverton, Devon, UK, so it's a bit far to come to look for myself - but hey, any excuse for a holiday...! Thanks for any help, Phil Curtis
In the Sydney Morning Herald, 23rd May 1831, under the heading "Parish of St Philip - Allotments", four allotments and their relative locations in Clarence Street are given. Included are the allotments of my ancestors John CUMMINS and Christopher James ROBLEY. Does anyone know how I might find out just where in Clarence Street the CUMMINS and ROBLEY allotments were, from the information given here? (I know nothing about surveying.) Parish of St Philip - Allotments Eleanor DUMIGAN, 12 perches, bounded on the East by Clarence Street, bearing South 14 degrees 45', East 62 links; On the South by John CUMMINGS' allotment bearing West 16 degrees, South 58 links and West 19 degrees, South 58 links on the West of Henry LINDEN's allotment bearing North 13 degrees 30' West 69 links; and on the North by James Christopher ROBLEY's allotment, bearing East 13 degrees 15' North 117 links. Quit rent 6 shillings per annum commencing 1st July, 1823. By command of His Excellency the Governor. Alexander McLeay. Thanks, John Ross
Hi all. Have a death registered in 1888 at Lithgow but the local Council don't seem to have him in their cemeteries. Does anyone have any ideas.. I believe the parents were living at Eskbank (Lithgow ?) at the time so he shouldn't be too far away. Has anyone had experience with the family history group at Lithgow..Do they have burial records that the Council don't have ? Cheers ... Ken Edwards
Thank you Di, for managing to think more laterally than I had! Of course it is perfectly logical that Madeline might have married again and looking for death records for Madeline Baxter has got me nowhere! I am absolutely delighted!!! And on my first excursion on the list too! Thanks Di. Best wishes Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: Diane Cole To: lmealey@bigpond.com Sent: Monday, September 25, 2006 8:49 PM Subject: Madeline Scard Hi Lyn I found this entry in the death indexes, which looks like your Madeline 380/1931 NASH MADELINE (-SCARD) 76 YRS STATE HOSP AUBURN and this is the marriage. 2775/1917 NASH RICHARD BAXTER MADELINE PADDINGTON Lots of people from all over Sydney seemed to have ended up at the Auburn State Hospital. Even my husbands great-grandfather whose family home was at Manly. THere were a couple of possible Henry Baxters who died 1912-1916, none at Balmain, but possibly he was in hospital in either Sydney or Burwood. Madeline's death certificate may tell you where and when she and Henry were married, depending on who registered the death. It obviously does not give her parents names, as they are not listed in the index. The second marriage certificate should tell you more about Richard Nash too. Hope this helps some. Diane

Hi all I would like to make contact with any descendents of Henry and Madeline Baxter (nee Scard) who married in March 1876 in Sydney. Henry and Madeline had 5 children Henry Arthur (b. 1877 Sydney), Ada Madeline (b. 1879 Waterloo), Edith May (b. 1881 Woollahra), Thomas J (b. 1883 Redfern) and William Henry (b. 24.8.1886 d. 30.1.1887). Henry Arthur Baxter married Ethel Rose Tatham in 1901 Balmain North - children Edith May(1901 d. 1901) and Arthur T R (1904) + probably others. Henry Arthur died 1926. Edith May married Henry Young in 1904 Balmain North - children Henry James, Albert Arthur, Alexander Robert, Gordon Frank (+ Beryl and Irene who died as infants) Edith Young died 1969. Do not know of marriage of Ada Madeline or Thomas J. Lyn Mealey Sydney
Hi all My g grandfather, Henry Arthur Baxter was born in England about 1852/3. I cannot find any record of his arrival in Aust. Have searched list of assisted and unassisted immigrants - any suggestions? Know that he was in Sydney by 1876 when he married Madeline Scard (Haven't been able to find this record). They had 5 children Henry Arthur (b. 1877 Sydney), Ada Madeline (b. 1879 Waterloo), Edith May (b. 1881 Woollahra), Thomas J (b. 1883 Redfern) and William Henry b. 24.8.1886 d. 30.1.1887). Searched NSW BDM - cannot find his death; cannot find Madeline's death either. No reason to think they left Sydney. Were living in Balmain in 1887 when William died, and probably still in Bamain area in 1903 when their daughter Edith May Baxter married. Any ideas? Lyn Sydney
Hi all In trying to trace my g grandmother Madeline Scard born in England about 1855, I found what I think is the correct family in the 1861 English Census. The household consisted of mother Ellen, father Thomas Scard, Madeline Scard (6) and a house servant (14). I looked at the original image to find their address and Thomas' occupation. Beside Thomas was M.R.C.S. practising, but this was also written beside Ellen and Madeline as well! Googling M.R.C.S. only seems to suggest Member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Do I assume that this Thomas Scard was a surgeon and it is just a mistake that M.R.C.S. is written against mother and child as well. There was a Thomas Scard who worked as a Ship's Surgeon on immigrant ships coming to Australia around 1866, but Madeline seems to have come independently to Sydney in 1874. Lyn Mealey Sydney
Hi again all. No luck with my fellow, must have married overseas... Just in case, his name was Aaron W.G. SPENCE, but went under the name of Ernest. On his WWI dossier, he recorded his wife as Lillian, but this may have been a middle name. I have an E.SPENCE arriving in Vic around 1909, right age !..and I was hoping this was him. Cheers ... Ken.
Hi all. Many thank's to all who replied to my posting. Cheers .. Ken.
Hi all. Can someone do a quick look up for a Vic marriage between 1905 and 1915, for a Mr SPENCE and a Lillian (someone). Cheers ... Ken Edwards.
