Hi Listers. I would like to confirm that Margaret and Bridget CONSIDINE from Sixmilebridge Clare Ireland arrived in Australia on the barge "Duchess of Northumberland" on 3rd October 1836. Would sks look up the Bounty records or other records for me? Regards, Rex
My ggrandfather and his brother came to Australia in 1833 on the Layton. They were bricklayers and came out as Bounty passengers. My query: I would like to find out more about what Bounty was offered to them, does anyone know if records are available that I could check? Many thanks Eleanor
Thank you to Bill, Mary, Peter, Marg and Jan for your very helpful replies. I will contact the newspapers and magazines as suggested. Marg said to put the details on the list, so here goes: I am living in England, though originally from Wales. The Martins are my mums side of the family. In 1968, Thomas Martin (my mums uncle) sent a letter to the local newspaper in Barry, South Wales, UK asking for members of his family to contact him. This is what the article said: " A Barry born man who left town in 1948 to emigrate to Australia has appealed through the Barry and District News for news of his relatives. He is Mr Thomas William Martin, now living at 23 Septimus Street, Erskineville, New South Wales. 'I would dearly love to hear from my family as I get kind of lonesome out here and my sons would like to hear from their uncle and aunts, whom they have never seen or heard of.' The family did reply to his appeal but none of the correspondence has survived. I don't know if my Great Uncle Tom is still alive or not. He would be coming close to being 90 years old by now. The article mentioned his sons, though I don't know their names. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you! Lyn Freeman. Wet and windy England! --------------------------------- All New Yahoo! Hi All I am researching my family tree and have decided to search closer to home. I am interested to see if anyone has any memories or information or memories on the above mentioned Donelan family that they would like to share with me. My Grandfather Richard Donelan (Dick) married my grandmother Ethel Anderson (may of been called Peggy ?) in Sydney in 1928. I think they moved to Francis St, Fairlight Sydney not long after as they had 5 children Barrry, Ian, Russell, Carol and Beverley. My grandfather i believe was a fisherman / bar man and use to supply the local fish shops in Manly with fish. I believe he also worked for an hotel in Manly where the Manly Pacific Hotel now stands. My mother Carol Donelan and her sibling went to school at Manly West School. I think she later went to Manly Home Science school i think. Anyway if anyone out there remembers the family i would love to hear from you. Thanks for reading my post. Hi MargM Thanks for such a prompt reply. I have now found the "Hugh Walker" on in the Shipping Gazette 10 Oct 1853 it is under "Ships in Harbour. All it says is "Hugh Walker, ship 496 tons, Mackie, at Circular Wharf, Ilow & Walker and Co Agents" Can I assume (I hate doing that) that it would have been a Cargo ship and MACKIE was the Captain? This shipping business is all new to me.
