I wonder if someone with access to the Parramatta Pioneer Register Vol 1 would help me with page 135, now missing from the notes that I made when I had access to this register. The person I am interested in is KEATING Andrew; the submission on this man begins on page 134. I would like to know what the rest of the submission says on page 135 and if there are any other KEATING relatives of his on this page. Thanks, Sal
Dear Phyllis, Did the person who died in 1953 leave a Probate? If so, papers are at State Records KINGSWOOD which may throw some light on further enquiries. Sincerely,Bill > Hello Listers, > > Has anyone come across the name Charles James FAHY in their genealogical > travels? >
Hello Listers, Has anyone come across the name Charles James FAHY in their genealogical travels? Charles James FAHY married Elsie Vera HOLLAND in Annandale, Sydney in 1937. Elsie was the daughter of Private E.J. Holland (b. abt. 1878 Leicester England. He was invalided out of the AIF in 1920, having been suffering from bayonet wounds sustained at Ypers, Belgium in 1917) who had settled in Perth, WA. She was born in Leceister, England in 1902. As far as I know, The Holland's with their daughter travelled from England to WA about 1907. Elsie moved from WA, with her mother, to Sydney about 1932. I am trying to find anyone connected to this family. I know that Elsie's mother was a widow (at least that is what is on her 2nd marriage certificate of 1935). I also know that Elsie's mother died in 1953 - Sydney NSW. Can anyone help, please. Regards. Phyllis
Dear Friends, I picked this up from an English Mailing list. I thought you might be interested. There seems to be no restriction, only limited by your personal download speeds and monthly download limits. The digital films are not limited to UK events. If you do decide to download something, please pass your impressions as feedback to this mailing list. =======QUOTE======= PATHE NEWS ONLINE Until 1970 cinemas all over Britain showed Pathe newsreels. Now you can view the entire collection, over 3500 hours, online at: http://www.britishpathe.com It is necessary to register, but whilst there is a charge for high-resolution copies of the films you can view low resolution versions free of charge. Almost all are in black and white, and the very earliest footage is silent. The earliest films date from 1896! Pathe display a Top Twenty on their site - the most popular when we checked was a film of the Titanic, but an early favourite of ours is the funeral of Queen Victoria in 1901. ============END QUOTE======= Cheers, Tony Moore (Balgo, Western Australia)

Dear Sue, If you have the exact date of death then you need to go probably to the Sydney Morning Herald or the Manly Daily for a Death and Funeral Notice which should list family members. Most do. For your death of the children maybe if you look on the Ryerson Index compiled by the Dead Persons Society you may find reference to them. That index carries on from the NSW BDM and goes from c1972 to present covering over 100 newspapers. Just type in Ryerson Index at your search engine. Sincerely,Bill > Hi > New to list. Hi Jen Pity - I was at State Records today! For 1861 Hotspur only one reel mentioned as you say 2139 - this one is the shipping record I think and may not have relatives listed - most of the arrivals certainly after 1866 have 2 reels mentioned - first is the shipping/ passenger lists info and the second is immigration which is the one most likely to include relatives. Wondered if this one was any relation MCMENAMIN John 22 or MCMENAMEE, J Spitfire 1863 2139, 2481 Best Wishes Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Overend" <jimbo37@bigpond.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-SYDNEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 23, 2006 12:02 PM Subject: [ANS] LOOK UP > Hi Everyone, > > Can someone please do a look up for me at a family history library? > > The surname is McMenamee, first names Bridget, Hannah and Mary. Hi Everyone, Can someone please do a look up for me at a family history library? The surname is McMenamee, first names Bridget, Hannah and Mary. They arrived in Sydney in 1861 aboard the Hotspur. I would like to know where they came from and if they had relatives residing in Sydney. The reel number is 2139. When my great, great grandfather John McMenamin, arrived in 1866 aboard the Queen of the East, records state that he had a sister Hannah, living in Sydney. I am trying to ascertain if this Hannah, and her sisters, are John's sisters. Anyone any other ideas? Thank you in anticipation. Jen.
Hi Marie, Offhand Thelma Wylie HICKSON doesn't ring any bells but if you know who her parents are I could double check my databases of other HICKSONs. I have my direct line all covered but some of the side branches I have only followed up to 1905. I also have a file of other HICKSON families not connected to my own that I have gathered over the years. If you can tell me her parents names I can take a look for you. Regards, Jenny W <<Hi Jenny Do you have a Thelma Wylie HICKSON b1910 in Penshurst, NSW? I am interested as there was a marriage in 1939 between William Robert BRIMSTONE & Thelma Wylie HICKSON in NSW. Dear Keith, If I can add a bit to Royalene, there are also transcriptions available at a reduced rate. They too contain all the same information. Hi Keith, As you live in Wales you may not be aware that Australian certificates hold a great deal more information than English ones, provided the informant had the info, that is. A death certificate, which can be ordered online from NSW BDM, could contain the date of death, address of person plus where he died, age at death, cause of death, duration of cause, parents names including mother's maiden name, name of wife (if married), names and ages of living children (if any), number of deceased children, place of marriage, age at marriage, place of burial and name and address of informant. Some older ones even mention when they arrived in the colony. In short, a whole history if you are lucky, and many are. It is well worth the money. Regards, Royalene, Wyong, N.S.W. Australia.
Good afternoon List, I wonder if some kind member of the list could assist me with an explanation. I have read these films a number of times transcribing details for my family records. However I am rereading them with the sole purpose of obtaining authenticating copies of relative pages and started on the C of E Chronological Index 1787-1831 [# 993948] of Baptisms, today and for the sake of accuracy could someone explain what the letters A, B, C, or D written against the Church listed on the right hand page under the heading "Where Registered" mean. I had a good look at the copies of the front pages/covers of the Register but there are no explaining notes. Thank you for your help. Rex Roberts, Waikanae Beach, Kapiti, New Zealand.
It's been over a year since I posted my interests on the list so I thought I would do so again. I am researching the following families who lived in the Sydney area from 1870s onwards. HICKSON: Peter and Matilda Ann [nee Sheppard] married Nambucca River 1868. Their children were: Walter 1869, Ada Matilda 1869, William Peter 1871, George Thomas 1873, Mary Rebecca 1875 - died 1876, Edward 1877, Frederick 1877, Benjamin 1879. This family moved to Sydney between 1873 and 1875. George Thomas HICKSON married Sarah Jane TUNE 1897 Their children were: Ernest Henry 1893 [prior to their marriage], Alfred Thomas 1897, Edward George 1899, Ruby b 1904-died 1904, Leslie Frank 1908, Albert John, 1910, Mabel Helena 1906, Lina Mary 1912 Ernest Henry HICKSON married Jane Alice [Jean] Thomas in 1919- My Grandparents TUNE: George and Lina Mary [nee WATKINSON] arrived from Lincolnshire England in 1886 with children: Thomas George 1872 [died 1901 USA] Henry Albert 1873, Sarah Jane 1874 [see above], John Peter 1876, Catherine Mary 1879. Catherine Mary TUNE married Arthur Ernest Henry LOVE 1896. Known children Arthur 1896, Reginald 1908. HOULIHAN/HOOLAHAN and other variations: William HOULIHAN and Alice Maragaret DOWLING arrived from Ireland and finally settled in the Sydeney area about 1878. Their children were: Mary J born Ireland 1865, Albert Joseph b Coonabaranbran 1873, Ellen L b Coonabarabran 1875, William John b Waterloo 1878, Maragaret Alice [aka Alice Margaret] born 1880 married Henry THOMAS. THOMAS: John Alexander born England about 1850, son of John Triggs THOMAS and Jane Ann GREGORY. John married [1] Mary Jane [Jane] Finnemore in 1872 in Surrey Hills Sydney. Their children were: Helen Elizabeth [Elizabeth Ellen] born 1873, Henry born 1879 married HOULIHAN [see above], 5 male children who died young. [2] Victoria Harriet KNIGHT in 1898 the same year his first wife died. Victoria already had one child, Jaqueline H.V.H KNIGHT, who later took the THOMAS surname and quite possibly was John's natural daughter. I have lots of information to share on my direct line as well as some on the side branches. I would be very interested to hear from anyone else researching these families. Dear Rex, I have not seen the LDS film, but you may be interested in the following page from the NSW bdm site: http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/churchCodes.htm There are 26 different C of E places of registration / parishes listed for early church records before civil registration began. Thanks Royalene for that valuable information. I have already sent for the two death certificates of George Thomas Roberts d 1943 and his wife Mary Teresa d 1973 so 10 days stated turnaround plus post time to UK seems a long way away. Can`t wait now that I am so close!! Thanks again, Keith Roberts.
