    3. I think you will find that the Camperdown Cemetery Trust is responsible. I suspect that the church has representation on that body, but I think you will find it is something other than a church graveyard. The following site gives some historical background, and says that the Church of England Cemetery Company is the trust company with 200 £10:00 shares. What this means in practical terms I have no idea. I suspect your first approach should be to the minister of St. Stephens Newtown. The sexton of the church and the Australian Society of Genealogists have copies of burial records. Bob and Laurel Horton. 3. Yes, We went to this cemetery in church grounds last year and found the grave of ancestor JOHN CONNELL quite quickly. He was a merchant in Pitt Street, Sydney in earliest times and died c.1850. He arrived on "Earl Corwallis" in 1801. Lots of info to share with anyone with links... Thelma Birrell Maroochydore. Camperdown Cemetery is in the grounds of St. Stephens Anglican Church at Newtown so I would imagine that the Church is responsible for the upkeep of the grounds

    3. Dear Liz, The cemetery is attached to St Stephen's Church, and there are some records, I think at the Society of Australian Genealogists in SYDNEY. About half of the cemetery was converted to a park many years ago and last time I was there it was a bit overgrown. I live in the bush, not close to the cemetery. Sincerely,Bill > Hi all, > Would SKS please tell me who is responsible for the Camperdown Cemetery,

    3. Hell Everyone, To those interested if the Rocky Point Cemetery is still there, The last time i looked it was but in a very Run Down condition. It is just before the Junction of Rocky Point Road and Princes Highway, Kogarah. There is very little parking available so you would have top park at least in the St. Geogre Private Hospital parking area and walk to it. I have seen the list held in the Research room at Sutherland Library but i can't remeber what was on it. Regards, John T. 1. [ANS] Seeking information re a "WARDEN" sign?
    2. KEMSLEY, Robert N. G.
    3. Fellow listers may recall some time back now, I posted a request for information as to an old family photo showing an old brick home, believed Sydney during the 2nd WW; above the front door was a sign I couldn't quite read other than the word WARDEN thereon, above which were 3 words; the centre one I believed to be Emergency? Whilst visiting a 2nd hand shop recently; I saw 2 "NES" (National Emergency Services - New South Wales - WARDEN) badges and was quite convinced that I had found that for which long I had sought. Prior to that; I had written to the "Seniors Magazine"; asking their help and have just received a reply back that indeed; the sign I was seeking information about was: "National Emergency Services - WARDEN"; they attaching a photo of; for which I was ever so very grateful. I though perhaps there may be fellow listers who may be interested in the above or revive old memories of? Kindest regards; Robert KEMSLEY Australia

    3. Thanks Bill - haven't tried systematis search on Electoral rolls - others have searched on 1903 electoral roll - Madeline not there and the Henry Arthur Baxter that is, is probably their son. Must now embark on a systematic search - at my local electoral office, can I look up a variety of years for any electorate? 3. November 2006 Update Greetings, HAT History of Australian Theatre www.hat-archive.com If a member of your family worked in the Australian Theatre or if they toured Australia they may be included in the site's 15700 entry database. This month I have added almost 400 names to the database, many come from the Australasian Stage annual of 1906. I have also added an article on the Bluett Family of actors and many photos. So have a look and see what you can find. Oh and keep an eye out for my book on Houdini's tour of Australia which will be published by Gininnderra Press soon cheers Leann HAT-History of Australian Theatre www.hat-archive.com

    3. When I first posted a query about my g-grandparents Madeline and Arthur Baxter some weeks back, I had been spurred on by finding by accident a 2001 posting on a rootsweb mailing list from a Diane Armstrong (possibly in Sydney) - I emailed her - no reply - I'm assuming it's an old email address - re the Baxters she was then at the same "brick wall" as me so I would love to make contact with her. If anybody on the list knows her, I'd love to hear. Have to report that Henry is still a mystery, but I now have 2nd marriage and death certs for Madeline, lots of info and a death cert for her father Thomas in Sydney, info about his parents in Kew - largely thanks to being "kick-started" by people on this list! Genies are very generous people!! Lyn Sydney

    3. Edwardian St Peters Whether or not you have a family connection with the St. Peters, Cooks River area in New South Wales, the following event should give you some idea of the world of your ancestors. St Peters Church, Cooks River, will celebrate the centenary of the old rectory on Saturday, 2nd December. The foundation stone of the rectory, the second to be built on the site, was laid by Archbishop William Saumarez Smith on 1st Dec. 1906. Several memorial stones were also placed in position by ladies connected with the church. The rector at that time was Rev. G. Middleton. Some of the brickmasters of the district each contributed several thousand bricks. As part of its free, monthly Saturday Open Afternoon programme a special celebration will be held from 1.30 till 4.30. The afternoon will include children's games of the Edwardian era, afternoon tea served on the old rectory verandah and an historical display in the church hall of newspaper events and advertisements of 1906. At 2.30 there will be an entertainment called ‘It happened in 1906’ which is based on events, both local and international, from newspaper reports of the day, with popular music, hymns, bush songs, poetry and literary extracts. Dress fashion of the day will be recreated. Come dressed in 1906 (Edwardian) style if you wish. St Peters Church is located at 187 Princes Highway, St Peters. Contact - Tel: 9558 7504 or www.cooksriver.net. Bob and Laurel Horton. St.Peters Cooks River History Group.
