    3. Dear Rod, I have two suggestions as starting points for your Redfern Pub Crawl <<grin>>. Perhaps this group may have some history buffs as well as imbibers at: http://www.sydneypubguide.net/ On a more academic note, over the last 80 or so years there were various council merged and now form the City of Sydney Council. The archives for Redfern mentioned here: http://tinyurl.com/ymbrah It says ................ Non-current records created by municipal councils absorbed by the City of Sydney at different times. These include: Camperdown (1862-1908) absorbed in 1908; Alexandria (1868- 1948), Darlington (1864-1948), Macdonaldtown/Erskineville (1872- 1948), Glebe (1859-1948), Newtown (1862-1948), Redfern (1859-1948), Paddington (1860-1948) and Waterloo (1860-1948) absorbed in 1949, Northcott/South Sydney Municipal Council (1968-1981); and South Sydney City Council (1989-2004). To contact the archives, see this page: http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/ContactUs.asp At a bare minimum the archives will have the council rates books, but might also have some early photos or sketches and other correspondence. Hope this will provide some kind of starting point for you. 3. Dear Lister, Bathurst Family History Group not long back issued a CD with all the headstone transcriptions and they may be recorded there. Bankruptcy files are held by State Records KINGSWOOD. There is a newish car spare parts place on one corner of George and Piper Streets. A block of units and a fruit shop on two others with one nice old house from memory on the remaining one. Sincerely,Bill >I am looking for any information regarding any of the following: > Richard Rupert EWEN who married Wilhelmine Elisa Mary NAEGUELI in Sydney > in 1865. 3. Hi there all, Thought I would put my two cents worth in as long as we're talking shoes in the 40s. I don't know where they were sold, but my mum used to make macramé tops and ankle straps to go onto high heeled wooden platforms. This was around 1945/46 and I can recall her rushing through the housework to sit in the sun and make these. I think it was referred to as 'general piecework' and it was her input into the general housekeeping, but I don't think it was very lucrative. 1. [ANS] St Philips Grammar School and EWEN
    2. Don Delport/Mike Powter
    3. I am looking for any information regarding any of the following: Richard Rupert EWEN who married Wilhelmine Elisa Mary NAEGUELI in Sydney in 1865. Her death was registered in Bathurst in 1908, his in 1909. They had a daughter Leyson who died in Bathurst in 1908. He was the late acting Headmaster of St Philip's Grammar Scchool Sydney and ran an educational establishment initially (1856) in premises at Mr Goode's on the corner of Piper and George Streets Bathurst and then in 1857 in premises owned by Mr Popolaro(?) in Bathurst (Kingsdown House - named after his home in Bristol, England). I do not know where the EWENs are buried either. He seems to have gone bankrupt a few times. Thank you.
