    3. Thanks Liz Below are my notes on the arrival of my GGGrandfather Joseph Michael Saville and his friend (cousin?) Thomas Bridgeman. Both had assisted passage from the local parish in Radwinter Essex. Trying to establish connections of Radwinter families. ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA: John Oxley Library Sydney, June 2004: Shipping List, 1851 reels 2136, 2462, Joseph Saville 2l arrived on the 'Garland' in 1851 travelling alone - he and Mary A Moore married the following year. Reel 2136: Joseph Saville male 21, farm labourer, native place Essex, Church of England, could read and write. On the end of the Garland reference the recapitulation states there were 259 on board. It continued: 'among the wives and families of convicts that came in this ship there were 35. See Convict Book 10.' What's that? Joseph was born in Romford Essex in 1831 of parents George and Sarah (dead?) and left for Australia as an assisted passenger - paid for by the Poor Law Board via the parish - on November 30 1850 from Plymouth arriving Sydney March 15 1851 ship Garland. He was with a Thomas Bridgeman whose brother was in the 11th regiment. I have pretty much established that Thomas' brother was Josiah Bridgeman - would love to know anything of him Liz. I have also discovered that another member of the regiment, Charles Eyles was the brother of Jane Eyles who married another Thomas Bridgeman in 1843. I understand they had prevciously lived in NZ. There may be a connection here too. 3. www.hat-archive.com HAT- History of Australian Theatre If you have ancestors who performed or were involved with theatre in Australia you might find them on the 15000 entry database. This month I have just done a small update. I added about 100 new names to the database, and 20 pictures to the pictures section. I also added an article about Oscar Wilde's plays in Sydney. For those interested in magicians of the late 19th and early 20th century, Kent Blackmore, Sydney's magic historian will be giving a lecture on them for the Royal Australian Historical Society. The lecture will be at 133 Macquarie Street Sydney on 15th January, 6pm, Cost is $7. Bookings essential on 9247 8001.I'll certainly be there as it's my workplace. In other news, please buy the book Houdini's tour of Australia, from Gininnderra Press at http://www.ginninderrapress.com.au. I'd like to thank everybody for their support for the site this year and wish you all a Happy Xmas and a merry new year. Leann www.hat-archive.com HAT- History of Australian Theatre

    3. Hi Everyone I thought I may place my enquiry on the list as I'm doing research into a particular family in Redfern. I'm trying to find information on THELMA IRENE SMITH whose father, ARTHUR SMITH was a Boot Trade Employee. Thelma's mother was DOROTHY ELIZABETH CANNANE and they were living at 136 Lawson St. Redfern in 1951 when Thelma married HERRICK CAIN who came from Coonabarabran. Dorothy SMITH (nee Cannane) died October 1973 and was living at 15 Osborne St Blacktown. Siblings to Thelma Irene were BERTHA,BERYL, DOROTHY and RON SMITH. Any help much appreciated Dianna --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
