Hi Sue Unfortunately the pages which I photocopied only go up to the surname ROBERTS, but Alison has kindly offered to do lookups. My grandmother lived at 37 Elliott Street Balmain, and her neighbours were WISEMANS. While I can still see all of their faces clearly I cannot remember any of their names. They were an elderly couple, but they had family close by who used to visit all of the time. Hopefully Alison will be able to help you further. Greetings Alison and congratulations on your most generous offer, I may well have occasion to accept your generous offer myself from time to time, however, could I ask a big favour, should you receive any inquiries where the inquirer has some evidence of burial at Balmain cemetery, maybe a DC, and the person sought is not listed on your microfilm, would you be so kind as to pass them on to me, I have found several burials where the DC simply states the place of burial as Balmain and where in fact the person concerned was interred in the Balmain Catholic cemetery, I have a long way to go with my research, having found only about 10% of the probable 2500 (or so) burials atthe Catholic cemetery, so all help most gratefully received,I have also written a history of the Catholic cemetery and it's quite an interesting story All the best Patrick Callaghan PS I am especilly looking for anyone who may have photos of headstones or documentation regarding re-interment to another cemetery ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alison" <wadingbird@bigpond.com> To: <aus-nsw-sydney@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 31, 2006 10:55 AM Subject: Re: [ANS] Balmain Cemetery Burial Index > Mary and listers, > > I didn't want to step on your toes or butt in after the generous offer > you made for look-ups, but I do have a copy of the complete burial > index (on fiche) for Balmain General Cemetery. Searching for information on the above family - parents James and Emily Cobb and brothers James, Albert and Walter. The family lived in Newcastle during the later years of the 19th century, with some remaining in that location and others later moving to Sydney and farther afield. In his day, Walter "Wally" Cobb was a well-known footballer, representing Australia during the 1890s. I have been unable to find birth records for the brothers, whose births would have occurred somewhere around the 1860-70 period, so am assuming James and Emily may have arrived in Australia with a young family. If anyone has connections to the family, or can suggest where I may find basic evidence of where or when the family arrived in NSW, I'd be very pleased. TIA, Maureen.
Hi All I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas. As I was having a tidy up of some of my genealogy folders I came across the above index which I had photocopied and filed years ago. So if anyone requires a lookup please feel free to ask me. I’m not sure if I have the whole index though. Mary -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
