    3. Hi Di If you think that some of them may still be living why not try having a look at the online phone directory at www.whitepages.com.au Easier to find the males of course, but then they could tell you the married names of the females. Or you could try a cemetery search for them, to eliminate who is still alive and who is not. I travelled around the country by train for a number of years when working in the shearing sheds taking both the Southern Aurora and Daylight. The other thing I particularly remember was the drink bottles in each cabin, a carafe type glass bottle with a 'plug top' full of water and two glasses fixed high on the wall near the windows, Would anyone share glasses in public like that today?? and sorry Louise my memory has faded but I'm sure the Daylight had a counter as described and the Aurora had the white table clothes and sleeper accom. as overnighter and was much more expensive then the Daylight. 3. Hi Barb, I do have the death certificate you identified of Christina Mary Ella (born in Turon). There are a lot of discrepancies between Christina and her sister Esther Letitia SMITH. Christina's parents on the above death certificate are shown as Robert SMYTHE and Mary TUXFORD. Esther's parents are shown on her death certificate as Charles SMITH (Goldminer) and Mary Ann LUXWELL and she was born in Turon. No birth certificate found for Esther. Christina Maria Louisa SMITH birth certificate says she was also born in Turon to Charles SMITH and Mary Ann (nee CLARKSON). Not sure if the two Christina's are the same person? I have the newspaper funeral notice for Esther stating Mrs F Curtis is the sister of Esther? Actually I am trying to trace the parents of Esther. 3. Hi Hilda. I have some Coates, the connection is a marriage to Harriet Strange, and Earnest George Coates, married at Rosedale, Canterbury 1902. They had several children, Let me know if you think this a connection. Yvonne aus-nsw-sydney-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Today's Topics: > > 1. RESEARCHING FAMILY NAMES (Hilda Cooper) > 2. 3. Hilda, Oh yes...just give any of us a little hook, and IT IS ON..... I have just bought an old house in Melbourne in one of the older inner suburbs, and have spent this afternoon at the library, looking at the Sands Index. I have found that the family who built the house in 1914, still owned it and lived in it in 1971. Haven't had time to get into the rates books yet to see what happened after 1971. Unfortunately these days you no longer get a big old fashioned Title with a list of all the owners, mortgages etc. All I got was a flimsy piece of A4 paper, only slightly better than photocopy paper. When I enquired....this is it...the actual Title! Have had to store it extremely carefully so I don't shred it one day with the photocopy paper! So now I am curious about them, the O'Brien's - builders and owners of my house for at least 57 years. Won't go so far as a tree of course, but nice to know who was there before. So glad you were successful today.
