Hello Bill Many thanks for the advice. The death we've located though is in ENG. Dear Tracey, Have a look on the NSW Probate Index and see if Florence left an estate. That one might even by on the name index on www.records.nsw.gov.au Papers are held at Kingswood State Records. Her Death Registration should give her years in colony. (Often not reliable) There are transcription agents which are cheaper. I am trying to find information in relation to birth of Florence Agnes Savage, She married John Carroll in 1899 in Sydney. She died October 1935 Bourke St Redfern age 55yrs. Hi Anne Here are two websites that I had archived for myself. I have not checked them for Peterkin myself. They are both Australian Theatre Archives http://www.pennygaff.com.au http://www.hat-archive.com/ Mary

Thankyou to Mary and Bill, Well I have enjoyed searching in your suggestions and not a lot of luck yet although I did get two articles on the father from the Science and Society Picture Library. I have a further enquiry please (hope you can help). There is another two ancestors (Edwin Benjamin Renshaw (5/8/1939) and his wife Florence Emily Renshaw(19/10/1938)) that are buried at Waverley Cemetery. Do you have any information about them please. Thanks.
Hi Debbie Yes, I have. The newspaper items are mostly advertisements or reviews of concerts. I'm particularly looking for any references after c1909. Thanks to another helpful researcher I've found his death in 1945 but there period between 1909 and 1945 is still a bit of a mystery. Greetings Amanda Saw your email and the many helpful replies, here are a few more ideas, which probably don't help, but sometimes small clues do put a crack in the brick wall Elizabeth McKenzie married Hugh Matheson in 1893 (2096/1893) the marriage was registered in Balmain West, could this be her?? Also five McKenzies were buried the the Balmain Catholic cemetery, they were: Mary Gertrude McKenzie buried 9/1/1883 Minnie Esther McKenzie buried 28/4/1883 Thomas McKenzie buried 10/10/1884 Isobel Florence McKenzie buried 22/2/1887 Mary Margaret McKenzie buried 19/8/1890 Some of these people had funeral notices in the Sydney Morning Herald and if they look interesting it might be worth while looking up the notices as they sometimes mention other relatives. Let me know if more info is required Good Hunting Patrick Callaghan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amanda Curran" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 2010 3:30 PM Subject: Re: [ANS] Elizabeth Safety Kensey b 1855 Balmain > Dear List, > > > > I have searched and searched for a death or marriage for Elizabeth S > Kensey > and can't seem to find a thing. I am looking for Charles Gillespie, an engineer born in Glasgow in 1872, who lived with his wife Janet and children Andrew, Hugh and Janet (daughter) in Cremorne in Sydney in 1930 and earlier. After 1930 Charles disappeared and although I can find his wife and children after that date I can't find Charles. He is not listed in the NSW BDM. There is a Charles Gillespie who died in Castlemaine, Vic in 1949 ( I don't have any other details of this death) but other than that he is a mystery. Any help you may be able to assist me with would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to help a friend in Ireland Thank you, John
More on the rugby link: William Arthur Peterkin born: 2 Jan 1858 Edinburgh test debut: 19 Mar 1881 Scotland vs. England, Edinburgh last test: 7 Mar 1885 Scotland vs. Ireland, Edinburgh Kara >>>>>>>>>> There was a W A Peterkin who played Rugby for Scotland he is in a team photograph 1885 here: http://www.cliftonrfchistory.co.uk/internationals/scotland/evans/evans.htm Enough similarity to the other photo (taken ten years later) to think it could be him . . . ?
Hi Lorette and Anne I have no connection to any of the people mentioned but I just wanted to say 'Great Work Lorette'. It is all interesting reading and makes me want to go and read more . . . distractions like this are why my tree stands still while I work on those of strangers! Rhetoric Question: Why is it so easy to find things for other people? >From Papers Past (NZ National Library newspaper archive): Crossley, Grainger, and Peterkin also performed in Wellington, NZ November 1903. She was billed as Australia's Greatest Contralto and was given a Civic Reception by the Mayor of Wellington. Last trains from Wellington to Lower Hutt were delayed 'until after the concerts' on the 27th and 28th of November. William A Peterkin was apparently born in Scotland c.1861 He belonged to the D'Oyle Carte Opera Company 1894-1895 brief details and a PHOTOGRAPH appear here: http://math.boisestate,edu/GaS/whowaswho/P-Q/PeterkinWA.htm If link no good you google 'D'Oyle Carte Opera Company Who is Who' The BBC Proms Archive lists 146 performances for W A Peterkin, by date, role, conductor, and place. There is a gap between November 1902 and August 1904 which seems to fit dates 'touring' - I have not looked at this thoroughly. There was a W A Peterkin who played Rugby for Scotland he is in a team photograph 1885 here: http://www.cliftonrfchistory.co.uk/internationals/scotland/evans/evans.htm Enough similarity to the other photo (taken ten years later) to think it could be him . . . ? Regards Kara DRURY NZ >>>>>> further to my last information on W A Peterson It appears he was back in England by at least the 7 Oct 1904 listed Queens Hall Promenade concerts 23 Oct 1909 Queens hall Promenade concerts found nothing after this what was his christian name W A ?

Dear Joan, The Ryerson Index would only contain details of a Death, in some instances a Funeral, not an incident where a person was injured. At present the Ryerson Index is complete from 1967 for Sydney Morning Herald and 1991 for Daily Telegraph, the two major daily Sydney papers. There are quite a few entries for other Sydney Morning Herald going back to the 1830's, some years are even complete, others with few entries, some with a lot of entries. The Daily Telegraph is almost complete from 1990. Maybe look for the death of the parents and see if that Death Notice contains details of children, as most do. To find what papers have been indexed, go to the top left icon on the main page of the Ryerson Index, "Newspaper coverage". When you click on that a window will open up with all the papers being indexed starting with Sydney Metropolitan, Country NSW and progressing through the states. Click on the newspaper you wish to know about, and a page will come up with details regarding that paper. Towards the bottom of the page in blue there is something about dates indexed. By clicking on that a page, or pages will open up detailing exactly what dates and years have been included in the index. At present that is up to date as of last weekend, and will change about every fortnight as more entries are added. The Sydney Morning Heralds are available on line as a "subscription service" up to 1990. You can take out a 24 hour subscription, or longer. www.smh.com.au should get you more details. Sincerely, Bill > Have tried the Ryerson Index, no luck.
