    3. Dear Maree, The Salvation Army have had a lot to do with adoptions and perhaps if you talk to your local person they may be able to help. No records kept at NSW BDM as far as I know, past the birth registration. 3. Dear Marg, On the main page of the Ryerson Index there is an icon "Request a Lookup". Click on that icon for a form to come up. You fill in that form with the details from the Ryerson Index. By the wonders of computers each request goes direct to the volunteer to do lookups for that year and that paper. In most cases you will get a copy of the image. The Ryerson Index does not usually have copies of Funeral Notices in the collection. Each request needs to be a separate request as they go to different volunteers. 1. Re: [ANS] Michael RICE d. 1860
    2. Bill
    3. Dear Patrick and Maree, Sydney Burial Ground 1819-1901 (Elizabeth and Devonshire Streets) and History of Sydney's Early Cemeteries from 1788 is the title of the book to which Patrick refers. Keith A Johnson and Malcolm R Sainty the authors. In the front of the book is a map as to where it was and it is dated 1842. As Patrick said, the site was taken over by Central Railway Station. The book deals with re-interments which took place to various cemeteries around Sydney. At Bunnerong, also known in the past as Botany Cemetery, now Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, and on line, there is a large Pioneer Cemetery where headstones were transferred from what we know as Devonshire Street Cemetery. The book divides the entries by each faith. I found no Michael RICE in the Catholic Section. David CARMICHAEL of 24 Bellevue St SURRY HILLS was issued with a permit to exhume the remains of Johanna died 21.1.1848, John died 5.9.1848, Elizabeth died 18.3.1858 and Thomas died 26.1.???? RICE. They had been buried in Section M, grave 540. Reinterred to ROOKWOOD R.C., but the headstone apparently went to BUNNERONG where there is a reference 2S, 155 in the remarks column. That information was found on page 313 in Apprendix 2 of the Re-interment register. Roman Catholic. entries 1403-4. (The last three entries have the one number). There are other RICE entries under other denominations. It is possible that a Funeral Notice may give a more detailed location. I found while gathering information to index into www.ryersonindex.org some early notices did not have a Death Notice, only a Funeral Notice, sometimes several Funeral Notices from each family member. Notices in the main appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, and that paper is now on line on the National Library website. A search of the Ryerson Index did not find the name Micheal RICE, but back indexing of newspapers is being done daily, so it is worth checking every couple of weeks. The last update was yesterday. Sincrely, Bill > Greetings Maree > My guess would be that Michael was buried in the Devonshire St cemetery, > in > 1860, I beleieve that it was 'the' cemetery for Sydney at that time > There is a book by Sainty and Johnson with Devonshire St. in the title > which > lists many of the burials which took place there
