    3. Robert, it appears as though their website must be down for maintenance. I regularly use it as a registered member and tonight is the first time I have had trouble. There is now a message saying "Access temporarily unavailable and we apologise for the inconvenience". I also note that Eastern Suburbs Cemetery are doing maintenance and updating on their website as well. So perhaps you might have to wait a while for your answers. Sorry hope this helps. P.S. I am not associated with the cemetery - just another searcher. Good Luck. Tracey. I've visited the Rookwood Cemetery site a couple of times now and had to register etc, but I don't seem to be able to get past that point to search? Regards; Robert KEMSLEY Please remember to snip most of the earlier message before you post any reply...... 3. Dear Faith, The Death records that appear like that indicates that the parents were unknown to the informant therefore not recorded. You can get a transcript which is cheaper, and often quicker than the registry. There are three agents on the website. I use www.marbract.com.au and have found Marilyn very good, as I believe the others are too. Maybe she changed to www.transcriptions.com.au over recent months. You will get more information in that the date of death, cause of death, place of burial/cremation will all be recorded. Parents (if known) and also marriages along with children, name and age, with numbers of any deceased children. I can't help with the Electoral Rolls other than you really need to know the Division and Sub-Division back in those times, and if they moved, it was often difficult to find them again. Defence people have a habit of being transferred interstate also. Have you checked the NSW Probate Index to see if they left a will, or had assets to leave? Papers for Probate Packets will be found at State Records, Kingswood. If you are not familiar with them on www.records.nsw.gov.au you will find a help sheet, called Archives in Brief No. 84. There is a later one too, which is about number 119. Sincerely, Bill > I have someone born in Australia N.S.W 1913 died 1952 was in the Navy > from about 1935 to 1948 I can not find them on the electoral rolls is > this normal for people in the forces ????????? 3. Faith, If your man was not in the country he would not be on the Roll's The death that you have found! 13558/1912 is the reg number and the year..his name..age..and the place he died! Take a look at this site http://www.jaunay.com/bmd.html it gives info for each state and what is on for the relevant years. Depending on where your looking and if the information has been verified/confirmed which is quite a bug bare as a lot of people are not confirming their "own" work and just putting up what they have been given. 3. Dear Jo, Further to my message this morning. Half asleep I calculated incorrectly. The death is outside the restricted period. I was on my way out the door to State Records when I replied this morning so jotted down the details. Records for Rookwood Asylum are not too many, but the book that could have contained details, is not one that can be issued for the use of Readers as it runs into the restricted period. The Archivist looked and there is no James Kennedy SLOANE therein. Sincerely, Bill > > This is a query about the Rookwood Asylum. I wondered if anyone had > access to the admissions register for the Asylum. > > I have a James Kennedy Sloane dying there on the 25th June 1897. 3. Dear all This is a query about the Rookwood Asylum. I wondered if anyone had access to the admissions register for the Asylum. I have a James Kennedy Sloane dying there on the 25th June 1897. On his death cert it states he was buried in the Presbyterian part of Rookwood cemetery but i have not been able to find him at the cemetery. I am wanting to find out where he was in NSW before being admitted to the Asylum. He was a Miner and a publican here in New Zealand until 1884 and also earlier on in Heathcote, Victoria. The years of his life from 1884 to 1897 still elude me. Cheers Jo

    1. Re: [ANS] James Kennedy SLOANE
    2. Bill
    3. Dear Jo, On www.records.nsw.gov.au there is an Archives in Brief ( four page Help Sheet) dealing with Asylums. There is a 120 year restriction on access to records. If you can prove, by way of certificates, that you are directly related to the inmate you can get access by application to the Health Department. On that approval will have to be the name of a person who you want to look at the records for you in view of where you live, unless you are coming here yourself. You may well find that he was in there as someone who was simply old, and unable to care for himself. Also I think that Asylum was probably what was later to become known as Lidcombe Old Men's Home on Rookwood Road, now Forensic Science establishment. Sincerely, Bill > > This is a query about the Rookwood Asylum. I wondered if anyone had > access to the admissions register for the Asylum. > > I have a James Kennedy Sloane dying there on the 25th June 1897. 3. Hi everyone I am new to the list and researching Frederick Thomas who married Ellen (Nellie) Louise Allworthy Allen on December 29, 1883 at Balmain, NSW. I have found that they had at least three children, Elizabeth Ida born 1885, Balmain, Frederick Hugh Harries born 1886, Balmain and Henry G.H. born 1889, Balmain who died 1892 in Balmain. Elizabeth Ida died 1965 in Burwood, NSW and Frederick Hugh Harries died 1961 in Sydney. Frederick the father died 1934 in Drummoyne and Ellen died 1933 in Drummoyne. I would love to hear from anyone that might have information on this family. Wendy Main Ontario, Canada

There may not be a father listed. I'm interested to see if there is a second name or initial for the mother and also where the birth occurred. Many thanks, Jenny [Brisbane]
