Dear Sylvia, You may find some additional information on www.naa.gov.au which is the National Archives website? SYDNEY was named after Lord SYDNEY around convict transportation time. He is too late for the Sands Directory of Sydney Residents which ceased their near annual publication in 1932-3. To find him in Electoral Rolls back in those times is difficult as there are many Divisions and Sub-Divisions of those Divisions of each Electoral District. Have you looked for a death on the NSW Birth, Death and Marriage site? If not there, have you looked on www.ryersonindex.org for a death past their cutoff date? Your email address indicates you are not local, and in cases like that when you sign off, it often pays dividends to also put your location, and some listers try harder to help when they know it is not a local. Sincerely, Bill > I am searching for the family of my Uncle Noel Pickering who emigrated to > Australia, arriving in Sidney January 1st 1947 on the Largs Bay ship. Hello Michelle thank you very much for taking the trouble to reply. I have purchased the marriage cert. for this couple and am wondering how I can search the Electoral registers for them from the UK? I have looked at the death index up to 1979 and there is no Noel P. listed which leads me to hope that he was living after this date. Any other snippets you come across would be gratefully received. regards Sylvia K -------------------------------------------------- From: "Michelle H" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 21, 2010 3:40 AM To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ANS] Noel Pickering > Hello > > On Ancestry.com.au I found a Noel Pickering in > > 1949 living at 14 Herbert St, Inverell and his occupation was a carpenter. > > 1953 Noel and Martha Hilda are living at 14 Herbert St, Inverell. Dear Bill Thank you very much for taking the trouble to reply. Thanks for the advice, I will put a follow up into the messages explaining that I am searching from the UK. I have discovered the ryersonline index. Am I right in thinking you have to work down the whole list of newspapers, that his name and suggested years, is not enought? regards Sylvia K -------------------------------------------------- From: "Bill" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 21, 2010 3:01 AM To: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ANS] Noel Pickering > Dear Sylvia, > > You may find some additional information on www.naa.gov.au which is the > National Archives website? > > SYDNEY was named after Lord SYDNEY around convict transportation time. > > He is too late for the Sands Directory of Sydney Residents which ceased > their near annual publication in 1932-3. > > To find him in Electoral Rolls back in those times is difficult as there > are > many Divisions and Sub-Divisions of those Divisions of each Electoral > District. > > Have you looked for a death on the NSW Birth, Death and Marriage site? > > If not there, have you looked on www.ryersonindex.org for a death past > their > cutoff date? > > Your email address indicates you are not local, and in cases like that > when > you sign off, it often pays dividends to also put your location, and some > listers try harder to help when they know it is not a local. > > Sincerely, Bill > > >> I am searching for the family of my Uncle Noel Pickering who emigrated to >> Australia, arriving in Sidney January 1st 1947 on the Largs Bay ship. I am searching for the family of my Uncle Noel Pickering who emigrated to Australia, arriving in Sidney January 1st 1947 on the Largs Bay ship. He travelled by free passage as an ex-serviceman in the British forces WW2. I have been searching for this family member since 1986 and would like to know where he lived, whether he married and if there are descendants in Australia who would like to know more about their family history. I have traced the family line to a John who died in 1716 having married three times and produced sixteen children.
Peter, you wrote > Hi Listers, > Can anyone please tell me where I may look for Deaths at Sea between 1851 > and 1866? I have half an answer which may help! An immigrant babe bn 1854 on ship KENT "near Albany" heading for Melbourne, had his birth registered in Victoria and ALSO in England, being aboard a British ship at sea. 13 Oct 1854 Marine Register Book of Births entry #163M refers. Ship was at "lat 42 deg s, long 120 deg e". Ship's Masters were obliged to make formal records of B, M, D aboard. "see also 132/55" which is in VIC index as CWOOD ie Collingwood, birth reg there 1855. So Deaths on British ships would also be registered I assume. Cheers, ALISTAIR
Hi Listers, Can anyone please tell me where I may look for Deaths at Sea between 1851 and 1866? Would these include passengers to Victoria before the beginning of Stae Registration there? Peter Melbourne
Does anyone know if the Sydney Benevolent Asylum website is still 'operating'? I have sent a couple of requests, firstly for the free information and then, when there was no response, for the paid research by them, but haven't had any response. Are they still answering queries and doing research or has the project been abandonded? Is there a long waiting period to get a response? Thanks, Jenny W [Brisbane]

Dear Listers The Victorian probate indexes on microfiche only go to 1992 but on-line they go from before that, to applications made in the last few days. It doesn't give a place or names of relatives. See: http://scvprobate.com.au/probate/Search/ApplicationIndex.aspx And dont forget you can download copy of any VIC will for free to 1925 http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/access/probate.asp Happy hunting Bye MargM List Admin

Hi Does anyone have the cd to Macquarie Park Cemetery. I am wondering if there is a headstone for Charles Albert Johnson buried 24 dec 1930 and Elizabeth buried 8 Feb 1926. They are buried together in Congregational Section B2 0014 Thankyou Michelle Herbert Bateau Bay
Good morning Linda; Many thanks indeed for this additional information; which helped myself and family no end. I wasn't aware that Rookwood Cemetery had an Independent Website; previously entering "Rookwood Cemetery" into "Search Engine", which kept coming up with the "Anglican & General" Website, which I found; I couldn't access for some reason. On visiting the site you suggested; I found both Agnes Annie & James JACKSON; being surprised to find Agnes Died/Buried 3 Feb 1938 & James Died/Buried 22 Aug 1953? Family have Agnes Dying 1 Feb 1938, which seems to be more logical? I would also imagine that James also Died a day or 2 previous to Burial? Once again; many thanks indeed and YES: It did indeed help. Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY

Just google Rookwood independant cemetery and go to deceased search, put in the surname and all will come up.If you click on "show on map" more information and who else is in the grave will come up. I hope this helps Cheers Linda
Thanks Marg :) Maree

Good afternoon Linda; Many thanks indeed for your find. How did you access the Rookwood Site when I cannot, is a puzzle. With your assistance; I now know for sure that both James & Agnes JACKSON are buried Rookwood as advised me by a family member. I also now know approx when James died and was buried; family member thought it to be about 1962, which was a little out. You were good enough to supply me with the burial date for James and the age at death of 77 fits exactly with what I had on him, but what of Wife Agnes? was there mention of when buried or any further info on either of? Family member advised Agnes Died 1 Feb 1938? Once again; thank you ever so very much for your valued assistance. Kindest regards; Robert KEMSLEY
Good afternoon Bill; Once again; you've assisted me; for which I am ever so very grateful. At least I know not to now look for wills for both family members. Kindest regards; Robert KEMSLEY
Good afternoon Tracey; Many thanks indeed for your interest in my quest. Yes; I've tried many times to access and find family members buried Rookwood, with the same result that you advise me of. Having to register is a bit of a pest, as it's almost impossible to recall all such registration details unless you write all down. Many thanks; Robert KEMSLEY
