    3. Hi Sherrie Thank you (once again) for your help - Edward's birth details and for the other info. I'll have to do some searching on 'Gaymer' - cannot at this point find Lillian or Edward A's deaths in BDM or Ryerson. This is a new line of research for me - don't know why I've not done it before as Lillian is my first mother's first cousin (although when I mentioned her name to Mum a few years back, Mum had no recollection of her). 3. Hi Laraine, Usually R is for a Cross Reference. The most common situation that comes to mind is the birth of a child, born out of wedlock. For instance 'Jane Smith' born in 1888 with rego.11223 & rego.11223 R. If you're lucky then 2nd Reference will have the child registered under the Father's name 'Brown'. Or sometimes it's just a simple case of being registered under McDonald & Macdonald. Do you mean the Death certificate does not mention the other name? The Death Certificate information is only as good as the Informant's knowledge, who is giving the information about the deceased. Perhaps they knew the person was born under another name? Kind regards, Sherrie. --- http://www.silkweb.com.au/ On Mon, 29 Nov 2010 20:01:15 +1100, K & L Goodworth <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi fellow listers, > > I purchased a death cert for rellie in 1991 so must have been off the > microfiche data base. A family member has just told me that there are two entries on the BDM website for same person with different surnames. I have had a look at the cdrom and found that the entry with the surname that I have the cert for has an additional column with Prefix - R. The certificate that I have does not mention the other surname so does anyone have any ideas of how Birth deaths & marriagaes know about it. Thank you in anticipation. Laraine

    3. Dear Joan, Here is some reading about the " Loyal Temperance Legion" - L.T.L. which should answer your questions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyal_Temperance_Legion The Loyal Temperance Legion was the children's branch of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. Its slogan was "Tremble, King Alcohol, We Shall Grow Up". It published an English-language newspaper for children called The Young Crusader, which was edited for some time by WCTU president Anna Adams Gordon, a strong believer in the need to interest children in temperance at a very early age http://tinyurl.com/2c3l7z4 http://tinyurl.com/28qctnv Page 32 of Judith Ann Pettingell (2008) PhD thesis at Sydney University : http://ses.library.usyd.edu.au/bitstream/2123/4150/1/ja-pettingell-2008- thesis.pdf http://www.nzine.co.nz/views/guinz-cyril.html Referred to as "Taking the pledge" as a person born new zealand 1912. 3. Dear Joan, One figure is missing in your dates, and if I take it as 1896-1870 then you may find some records for Gladesville Hospital at State Records, KINGSWOOD. Alchololism was considered, probably still is as a mental disorder and chronic alcholics were treated in Mental Hospital, Gladesville Hospital being one of them. On www.records.nsw.gov.au there is an Archives in Brief (Help Sheet) on Mental Hospitals which will help you to find records relating to Admissions to them. There is a 120 year restriction on viewing these records, so you may have to get permission from the Health Department to do so. Permission is granted on the basis that you prove your direct relationship to the person admitted. Should you be asking about 1960-1970 then possibly you will not be able to view any records that are available. Sincerely, Bill > > I have come across a small 'badge' with "TREMBLE-KING-ALCOHOL + We shall > grow up+ > L.T.L.
