Thanks Kaye I will get up there asap but I have sent the archives an email just to check, I'ts always best to pre order them I find, it's just getting the time and transport up there thanks for your help again regards dianna
Dianna, yes the will will list the property and who it was left to and hopefully the married name... I hope it is available for you. As I said previously, there were a couple that I could not get, but I was able to get most of the wills that I was searching. The probate has all the correspondence relating to the will and often there are death certs etc... Hi again Kaye The will should be all I need to see who Tressie left her property to shouldn't it. She only had one daughter Gloria and I just need to know what her married surname was then I can take it from there. I'm not sure what difference there is between a Last Will and Testament and a Probate Package but I'm sure the Will of Tressie will surfice for my purposes. Kind regards Dianna
Hi Bill and everyone The last will and testament should be all I need to see who Tressie left the house to. I only need the surname of her daughter Gloria then I'm off and running. Kind regard Dianna

Dear Robert, It must be remembered that these papers have been copied a couple of times now, and some of the Optical Character Recognition is not the best. In effect that means that if searching for SMITH and the "I" is deformed, or blotted as so many old papers are, then a name search will not turn that name up. To give an example when I was arranging the indexing of the 1880's SMH for the Ryerson Index a friend found a Death Notice in one of the Supplementary lists that went to the UK, but that notice did not come up where it should have been originally published. On finding the name in the Supplementary List he returned to the day mentioned and found the entry there. One letter being deformed, stopped him finding it originally, so I suspect that this is the case with your notice. On that basis, you probably need to go through the notices in the papers day by day for that period you know the date for, having the papers. Sincerely, Bill > > Yes; I would have thought that a Divorce in Sydney would have appeared > in the SMH, but if so; in this case; it doesn't seem to be the case? > > I've a message back from "Ask a Librarian" this evening and they cannot > find such a Divorce which I do know took place, as I've the paperwork > concerning from the Supreme Court and also have the Newspaper Clipping > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Good evening Marg; Yes; I would have thought that a Divorce in Sydney would have appeared in the SMH, but if so; in this case; it doesn't seem to be the case? I've a message back from "Ask a Librarian" this evening and they cannot find such a Divorce which I do know took place, as I've the paperwork concerning from the Supreme Court and also have the Newspaper Clipping surrounding the details leading up to the Divorce, but unfortunately; I was only young at the time and didn't record from which Newspaper it was taken or the date it appeared; both I am seeking to ascertain without success. I am also very surprised that on finding a Divorce Index exists and have since searched; finding there is record of the divorce, which I do know; took place> Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY >>> Best ask the NSW SL ! Dear Marg, On www.records.nsw.gov.au Archives in Brief 119 deals with how to find Deceased Estates and Probate Packets. Bottom of first page, last item on right mentions Will Books. Regards, Bill > >> Hi >> I'm doing research into a great Aunt of mine, Tressie SMITH wo was >> born >> in 1892 in Orange NSW to Eliza GREER and Charles SMITH. >> > Tressie did have a will so I may have to ask someone to >> check on this for me if anyone is going to the Archives Office.
Dear Kaye and Marg, I don't get to Kingswood often enough, but I did hear of those Will Books about a year ago, but I haven't used them. Regards, Bill > thats what I thought. Dear Dianna, We are talking two different things. The Probate Packet is only available up to c1965, Probate No. 598443 in Series 4 is the last one available. Will Books are different, they contain the Last Will and Testament ONLY. Regards, Bill > Hi Kaye > Thanks for that I've been told that they are only available at > Kingswood up until the mid 1960's, I've just sent an email to Kingswood to > see if they have the 1979 one I'm after, that will make things a lot > easier > as it does cost $52.00 at the Supreme court. Many thanks dianna
Marg thats what I thought. I had never heard of them but a few weeks ago I was looking for probates and Rachel suggested that I try for the will books.....I was amazed that they existed and that I did not know about them. I was able to get a couple of wills. Not all are available .I had one that was not in a fit state to be viewed,,,not sure why, but I did get to see a couple . I will have another look next time I am out there. Makes you wonder what else is hiding out there. I will let you kow if I find any more "secret files' Kaye www.teapotgenealogy.com ----- Original Message ----- From:

Maybe was out of site out of mind ??? Are these huge ledgers ??. What time period do they cover ??How did you trip over these ?? Amazing find ! bye MargM Sydney List Admin
Hi Kaye Thanks for that I've been told that they are only available at Kingswood up until the mid 1960's, I've just sent an email to Kingswood to see if they have the 1979 one I'm after, that will make things a lot easier as it does cost $52.00 at the Supreme court. Many thanks dianna
There are will books out at Kingswood....a well kept secret.....if you have the probate number which is available up to about 1980 you can often get the will. Not the Probate just the will. Just fill out the form with the probate number on it and mark it "will book" and they will check it for you to see if there is a will that is available to have a look at. I only found this out last month.. Kaye www.teapotgenealogy.com ----- Original Message -----
Hi Max That's actualley a great idea about buying transcripts etc for a gift, I'm often asked by friends what I would like for my birthday etc. if this will costs $50.00 that would be a good present. I'm actually going to contact the lands title office just to see if they can tell me who Tressies house passed to may have her daughters surname and that would save some hassle. Thanks a lot Dianna
Hi Dianna, buying transcriptions etc can be a costly business so why not drop a hint to family members who are often racking their brains and scratching their heads in trying to think of that special something to buy their loved ones (who already has everything) as a gift for Christmas or Birthday . The fact that it is 'an affordable gift' and is 'just what you wanted' will give them much satisfaction, and relief. It works particularly well for the more expensive Irish transcriptions where various family members will be only to happy to chip in. HI Marg Thanks for that information I will try and contact the Supreme Court see if I can stretch the budget to $50.00 such a contrast to getting for free from the Archives though isn't it. Many thanks Dianna
Dear Marg, The last Probate Packet number held by State Records for public release is No. 598443 in Series 4. There have been no further releases for a number of years now. Regards, Bill > > Hi Dianna > > The cut off date for Probate Packets held out at Kingswood was about > 1965. > Am sure they dont have Wills yet for 1979
