Jan, Necropolis refers to Rookwood Cemetery, bordered by Strathfield-Lidcombe suburbs of Sydney - there's no central search point on-line, each denomination has its own. Church of England now known as Anglican is here: http://www.rookwoodcemetery.com.au/ it's not as straightforward to search as some sites and for some reason they require you to register. Botany Cemetery, also known as Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, is at Matraville suburb of Sydney and its records, both cemetery and crematorium, are online http://www.esmp.net.au/ Alison :-) --------------------- Jan Moon wrote: > I have info that my husband's grandfather was buried at the Church of > England Cemetery Necropolis 12 May 1929 - His name was George Moon. Botany Cemetery is Eastern suburbs, on the coast. I'm sure it is on line. My mother in law is buried there, and my husband was cremated there Leith Davis On Mon, Feb 7, 2011 at 12:03 PM, Jan Moon <[email protected]> wrote: > I have info that my husband's grandfather was buried at the Church of > England Cemetery Necropolis 12 May 1929 - His name was George Moon. Hello Alison, Tracey Evans,Mary Cunningham and Leith Davis Thank you for your quick and helpful replies. Found my husband's grandmother, but will have to wait till Rockwood's site recovers. Thank you for your time. Jan
Jan I think the Necropolis is Rookwood Cemetery and it is out near Parramatta in Western Sydney, and the Botany Cemetery is in the South Sydney, and yes it is online. NEWS FROM ST. PETERS COOKS RIVER HISTORY GROUP. Recently completed is a nineteenth century data-base of newspaper items about our area which has over three thousand entries. We have also transcribed the Minute Book of the Organ Committee at St. Peters. On the 1st of November 1877 a meeting was called by St. Peters Anglican church to discus the purchase of a new organ. They finaly purchased from England a Brindley and Foster organ, which arrived on 27th October 1880. This is the organ which you will find in the church today. The accounts of the Organ committee detail those who subscribed to its purchase and the amount they gave, and the minutes record the names of those who served on the committee and their deliberations. Cross referencing persons found in the newspaper data base, the minutes of vestry meetings and the organ committee, baptismal, marriage and burial registers, allows us to build up a much clearer picture of the people and our area in the nineteenth century. Based on much original research, we will also be presenting for: The National Trust Heritage Festival 2011 Saturday 2nd April 2pm“’Every Window Tells a Story” People from a variety of backgrounds are commemorated in the stained glass windows of St Peters Church, Cooks River, hear their stories and understand the significance of the pictures and symbols. St Peters Church 187 Princes Highway, St Peters NSW (0pp0site McDonald’s) Saturday 16th April 2pm ‘Cooks River, Ebb and Flow’. Mansions and middens, people and plans, walk along the river and learn about the highs and lows of the Cooks River story. Starting at Tempe Railway Station. Hi Everyone I'm doing research into GLORIA and EDDIE/EDWARD BOOTH they had three children:- GARNET, KAY and GREGORY, and one grandchild Gary. Gloria is the daughter of Tressie Smith/ Willsmore/Davis. On Tressies death certificate Gloria is listed as the daughter of her first marriage to Arthur Willsmore aged 52 in 1979 so she would have be born in 1927. Tressie was married to Arthur Willsmore in 1912??? So I don't know if Gloria is an adopted daughter or natural regardless she is supposed to be married to a BOOTH. I haven't been able to find a marriage of a Gloria Willsmore or of a Gloria ? to an Eddie or Edward Booth. I've just been told by a cousin today that Gloria's married name is BOOTH but cannot find this marriage, I will look at electoral rolls for a Garnet BOOTH as this is an unusual name. Any advice on how to find these people kind regards Dianna
Hello Patrick, you might be lucky enough to get some free transcriptions from Gordon Beach. His web site is Http://ausbdm.ucoz.org/ He is asking genealogists to email him a copy of the transcriptions they hold. He will pass on the name and email address of the person who donated the transcription to other genealogists who are seeking them. In the event the donator has died or changed their email address, he is willing to supply a copy from his data base free of charge. We genealogists rarely get something for nothing. This is a method well worth supporting. Greetings Listers Many will know of my long running project to re-create the lost burial register of the disappeared Balmain Catholic cemetery When I have someone who I think might be buried in the Balmain Catholic cemetery, I eliminate as many as possible of the other possible burial places (Rookwood, Field of Mars etc.) before ordering a partial transcription to confirm the place of burial I have been long waiting for the Rookwood Anglican database to come back on line and as it seems this will take a while longer I am seeking help from listers Is anyone researching the names below and if so do you know the place of burial I would be most grateful for any help Patrick Callaghan Name JOHN H GARDINER Ref/Year 10934/1897 Parents JOHN & FLORENCE BESSIE TINSLEY 8118/1893 JAMES C & ELIZABETH A JOHN TINSLEY 1734/1870 EDWIN & SARAH EMILY E HARROLD 1274/1902 EDWARD & EMILY MARY TANCRED* 1766/1869 DENIS & CATHERINE

I assume (yes, I know) from the UK - he would have been aged maximum 22 years old at the time - he may have been accompanying his parents, William Henry and Laura A Himbury, or may have been on his own. He is listed on Ancestry as being an Unassisted Passenger, but I only have a subscription to Ancestry UK. Regards Jan
Can anyone please help with arrival details for this man? Thank you Jan Pottsville NSW
Hello listers I am looking for a copy of the death notice or obituary of a Judith Anne CHILDS. According to Ryerson it was published in the Sydney Morning Herald 13 Jul 1995. Trove only goes up to 1982. Where would I look on line for this notice or would some kind person be able to send me a scanned copy. Thanking you in advance for assistance in this matter Regards Peter Wadham
Dear Peter, On the main page of the Ryerson Index there are a number of icons on the left. One icon is "Request a Lookup". As the papers were indexed copies were maintained of a lot of them, and if you open up that page a form will pop up. Just fill in the details, and by the wonders of computers, that request will go to the person who has volunteered for that paper and that year. You will get a message back that your request has been processed, or alternatively one to say that the Ryerson Index does not have a volunteer for that paper and that year. I am fairly sure we have that information though. All part of the FREE service the Ryerson Index provides, however donations towards our costs are always welcome. Sincerely, Bill > > I am looking for a copy of the death notice or obituary of a Judith Anne > CHILDS. According to Ryerson it was published in the Sydney Morning Herald > 13 Jul 1995. Hi Marg; Sincere thanks. I was quite sure a person would have to be aged 21 before they could be entered on the Electoral Roll, but just wished to confirm and this has now been done, but it means that the person I am seeking would be to young I would imagine; to be entered on the Electoral Roll for 1954. Many Thanks; Robert KEMSLEY > A persons age not recorded on any Australian roll. Early rolls list > occupations
Hi Lyn; It's actually the parents of the groom I am seeking to find and if they are shown on the Marriage Certificate; that would be wonderful. Sincere thanks; Robert KEMSLEY > Marriage certificates often give you much reliable info, because both > parties are still alive. > > Birth places for Bride and groom > Occupations of B and G > Names of mother and father for each of bride and groom > Also occupations for fathers of B and G > Names of witnesses - often relatives.
Hi Roy; Yes; I thought it to be 21, but needed confirmation. Looks like I will miss out by 2 years; the person I was seeking. Thank you; Robert KEMSLEY >I think to be on the electoral roll in 1955 you had to 21.
