Greetings Listers I am one of the 20,000 subscribers to the Rookwood Anglican database, and like most of you am anxiously waiting for it to come back on line. Some time ago, the good people at the Anglican office made it clear that they did not have a budget for the work and were getting this project going with existing resources. I worked for many years in the computer industry and know what a difference some additional budget can make. So what do you think of the idea that those of us who are waiting, waiting. waiting make a small donation to the Anglicans to help speed up and them carefully test their work, if even half of the subscribers each donated $2.00 the project would receive an injection of $20,000 and I am sure that would help What do you think, is this idea worth pursuing Patrick Callaghan PS I havent spken to the people at Rookwood, seemed pointless if no one was interested in this idea

Dear List Members, I believe that probate packets are possibly free to view in person. If there is anyone who is going to the Western Sydney Records Centre at Kingswood, would it be possible to look up the following records for me: Item number or control symbol: Series 4-155306 Title: Bridget Yates - Date of Death 21/09/1928, Granted On 19/11/1928 Item number or control symbol: Series 4-172551 Title: Dennis (or Denis) Ccarr - Date of Death 02/12/1930, Granted On 02/03/1931 Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Christine
Dear List Members, I am researching a family by the name of CARR who arrived in NSW between 1863 and 1874 from Tipperary in Ireland. I know that this is a long email but I hope that you will bear with me. They are: John b.c. 1842 (1863 per Fairlie) Catherine b.c.1845 (1874 per Samuel Plimsoll) James b.c.1848 (1866 per Peerless) Mary b.c.1851 (1874 per Samuel Plimsoll) Denis b.c. 1855 (1874 per Samuel Plimsoll) Margaret b.c.1858 (1874 per Samuel Plimsoll) Bridget b.c.1861 (1874 per Samuel Plimsoll) I am trying to confirm whether in fact this is the family of my Catherine CARR born circa 1845 in Tipperary and who arrived in New Zealand c. 1875. I have researched this family for a couple of years and while I have been able to locate all of the other siblings in Sydney and NSW I have been unable to locate Catherine past her arrival in 1874. The boys John, James and Denis settled in the Northern Rivers area of NSW while sisters - Mary, Margaret and Bridget lived in Sydney. Mary married Thomas GILBERT Margaret married Edward HANLON Bridget married William Thomas YATES These sisters are all buried in Rookwood Catholic Cemetery. Mary and Thomas GILBERT had a son Harry b.c. 1888 who died in 1971. Harry had a daughter Marjory or Margery who married a McNAMARA and who died in 1982. Margaret HANLON died in 1896. A William B HANLON was born in this year to an Edward and Margaret so Margaret possibly died either in childbirth or soon after. There may also have been a daughter Isabella b. 1882 and a son Francis b. 1894. Due to the gap in ages I suspect that there are other children. A Thomas J. HANLAN was born in 1884 and a Catherine M. HANLON was born in 1886 whose father was recorded as Esward. Bridget and William YATES possibly had five surviving children: William, Thomas, Amelia, Catherine and Alice. Alice died unmarried while Amelia married Victor CONST and Catherine married her cousin Edward CARR. The death notice of Bridget in the Sydney Morning Herald of 22 September 1928 also names a Mr and Mrs Daniel BARRETT. The address for Bridget given in the funeral notice is 10 Garnet's Ave, Marrickville. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has information about these people or is in anyway connected. As regards Catherine, the NSW online death indexes has nine deaths for a Catherine CARR between 1874 and 1950 although none of them is a match. There are four marriages for the period 1874 to 1900. They are: Registration Number Groom's Surname Groom's Given Name(s) Bride's Last Name Bride's Given Name(s) District * at Time of Marriage 3024/1874 SHERINGHAM CHARLES N CARR CATHERINE MUDGEE 5162/1881 MORGAN EDWARD CARR CATHERINE WALGETT 6107/1882 MACCLUAND JOHN CARR CATHERINE WALCHA 6107/1882 MCCLUAND JOHN CARR CATHERINE WALCHA 158/1888 RODGERS JAMES CARR CATHERINE SYDNEY I have managed to rule out the Catherine CARR married in Walcha. A search of the internet reveals a tree giving this person's parents as Thomas CARR and Catherine MOFFATT and a birth year of 1860. Similarly the Catherine CARR who married Charles SHERINGHAM was born in 1856. If anyone can help me with the marriage to Edward MORGAN or James RODGERS it would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. Regards, Christine

Hi everyone! I am trying to determine if an Elizabeth Murphy who married William Hector 1869 Sydney is the same Elizabeth Murphy whose parents were Peter Murphy (sometimes Peter Duff Murphy) and Catherine Thompson. Elizabeth was born 1846 in Brisbane, but was most likely with her family when her parents travelled to the goldfields in NSW. Elizabeth's sister, Margaret Murphy married Edward Parker in 1861 Yass NSW. Her brother, Richard A Murphy died in Forbes 1863 at age 20yrs from a gunshot wound. From the NSW indexes: Children of William Hector and Elizabeth Murphy: 1639/1871 HECTOR CATHERINE M Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH M at SYDNEY 1887/1873 HECTOR WILLIAM E Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH at SYDNEY - died 7188/1933 HECTOR WILLIAM E Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH M at RANDWICK 2729/1876 HECTOR JAMES L L Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH M at SYDNEY 3021/1878 HECTOR PETER D Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH M at SYDNEY died 983/1879 HECTOR PETER D Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH at SYDNEY 2059/1880 HECTOR FLORENCE MABEL Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH MARY at SYDNEY 2631/1882 HECTOR MADELINE C Parents WILLIAM ELIZABETH M at SYDNEY ? Dear Tracey, Unfortunately a lot of things are not on line, and because of privacy I guess never will be, and property ownership is probably one of them. There is a professional researcher on land matters in particular. If you want her details I will dig them out for you. Sincerely, Bill > I was wondering if there was anywhere online - as I am unable to get to > Sydney. Hi Tracey, You might (??) pick up something by looking at the City of Sydney Assessment Books. Have a read here - http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/AboutSydney/HistoryAndArchives/Archives/ServicesForResearchers/AssessmentBooks.asp Firstly, you need to know what Ward (or boundary) the street/suburb comes under, so follow the Ward Boundary Maps link and then the City Boundaries and Wards link. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select a map from the drop-down menu, closest to what timeframe you are looking for. From there you will find what Ward Surry Hills and Moore Park come under ... it looks to be Flinders. Once you know the Ward, then go back and follow the Assessment Book Data Files link (at the above page), then choose the Ward and the closest year. You never know your luck ! I was wondering if there was anywhere online - as I am unable to get to Sydney. Dear Tracey, The Land Titles Office which now has a new name is located between St Mary's Cathederal and The Mint Building in Macquarie Street SYDNEY. Main entrance was opposite St Mary's, but now almost immediately behind that building. Sincerely, Bill > Can anyone tell me where I can find out who may have owned a property in > Surry Hills/Moore Park in 1930's and 1940's. Can anyone tell me where I can find out who may have owned a property in Surry Hills/Moore Park in 1930's and 1940's. I am trying to find out if my ancestors owned the properties they lived in. Thanks.

Botany Cemetery, is not in the suburb of Botany but in Matraville and, is now called Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park http://www.esmp.net.au/ . You can do an on-line name search. The local family history society, Cape Banks FHS http://www.capebanks.org.au/, has just released their monumental transcriptions of Botany Cemetery headstones on a set of CD-ROMs. Maureen -----Original Message----- Subject: [ANS] What Cemetery (Sydney) is this I have info that my husband's grandfather was buried at the Church of England Cemetery Necropolis 12 May 1929 - His name was George Moon. Dear Jan, Necropolis is the early name for Rookwood Cemetery. Each religion has their own records. Some are on line, in fact I think most. I take it you got that reference from the Headstone Transcription CD by the Society of Australian Genealogists. Botany Cemetery is now Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park which includes Eastern Suburbs Crematorium. It is on line as such. Jan, forgot to add in my last note. Society of Australian Genealogists (SAG) transcribed all the extant headstones in 1988 and published the results on fiche and later on CD. The CD is no longer available but the information is now available at www.findmypast.com.au (pay for view - although I think there may be a 24 hour free trial). Note that this is headstone inscriptions only and NOT all burials at Rookwood and only pre1988 Alison :-) Sydney Oz --------------- Alison wrote: > Jan, > > Necropolis refers to Rookwood Cemetery, bordered by Strathfield-Lidcombe > suburbs of Sydney - there's no central search point on-line, each > denomination has its own. I believe that the necropolis was Rookwood Cemetery it is located at Lidcombe N.S.W. not far from the train station. Botany Cemetery is in the Eastern Suburbs - it is online esmp.net.au. Also it is accessible by bus from Central Station. Bus 309 or 391 I believe you can check at 131500 Transport info. Hope this helps.
