    1. [SYDNEY] EMILY DUDLEY
    2. Peter STRAUSS
    3. I am trying to find anything out there about Emily Dudley, born Chippendale 07/06/1861, father George Dudley an emancipated convict [Coromandel 1820] and mother Mary Ann née Lynchey who had accompanied her convict mother, Sarah, to New South Wales in 1835 [Mary (3)]. Other than her birth certificate, and her mother’s death Certificate in October 1901 which notes Emily as living, being 39 years of age, I have found nothing among the NSW BDMs, on Ancestry, Family Search or on Trove. Several trees on Ancestry state that she married in Newcastle in 1902 however examination of the certificate shows that in that case the bride’s mother is not Mary Ann Lynchey, or Dudley; these online trees indicate a death in 1922 however this Death Certificate shows different, but still incorrect, parents’ names and an age nine years older than Emily. One of these trees previously showed Emily dying in Gujarat, India, since I requested details of this death that tree has been amended to match the several incorrect details referred to above. If anyone on the List knows of this lady I would be very pleased to hear any details. 3. Dear Syd, I would guess the address should read 27 Stanley Rd, Lidcombe, NSW You can use Google maps to find the house. see: https://goo.gl/maps/B3kNPKqS38u The original house would have been built circa 1890-1900 would most likely have the same basic shape, built of overlapping timber (weatherboard) as the one there today which has been, relatively recently, renovated, but has lost its original character. Probably corrugated galvanised iron roof. My grandfather was born in a similar style building not far from there. Number 5, 7, 33 and 43 still retain some of their original character. This death fits exactly. Lidcombe & Auburn are adjoining suburbs http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/family-history.aspx Death: LEIGH, EVELYN MAY Death registration number: 9609/ Year: 1965 Father: ALFRED AMOS Mother: UNKNOWN District: AUBURN LEIGH, JAMES HUGH Death registration # 22987/1970 Year: 1970 Father: JAMES Mother: HARRIET ANN Registration District: PARRAMATTA Parramatta registration district would now likely encompass both Auburn & Lidcombe. 2. Bill
    3. Dear Syd, As I read your email my knowledge of the Sydney area indicated that the suburb would really be LIDCOMBE, which is just a few miles west of the City, and it is in fact right. James Hugh LEIGH is shown on the Ryerson Index (www.ryersonindex.org) as dying at LIDCOMBE on the 17 June 1970 and published in the Sydney Morning Herald on the 18 June 1970. The information that I have does not contain enough Funerals to get to 'L' as we only copied what would fit on an A4 page, Death Notices being our priority. The Ryerson Index has a lot of volunteers indexing many newspapers in Australia, far from complete of course, but we have fully indexed the Sydney Morning Herald right from the first issue, and on line would be up to date until last Saturday when the last update took place. It is updated nearly every Saturday night, and the only entries missing would be if an indexer had a busy week and didn't get to their paper that week, but in all probability it would be indexed in the coming week Evelyn May LEIGH is in the same index as dying at LIDCOMBE on 18 March 1965 published in the Sydney Morning Herald on the 19 March 1965. Her maiden name was BROWN. She was cremated at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium on the 19th March. Try that Crematorium on the internet and you may find James there with her. The notices both indicate a child, Olwyn who was Mrs James REID. Lists are not good for attachments so I will send you a copy of the notices direct. Sincerely, Bill I am looking for any information about JAMES HUGH LEIGH, all I know at the moment is he was born 1889 at Pembroke Dock South Wales U.K. in 1943 he was shipwrecked and rescued and landed in the U.S.A the record states that his wife was Evelyn May Leigh of 27, Stanley Road Whitcomb Sydney N.S.W.
