Looking for descendants of Oliver GODFREY & Matilda Kate ROUT Oliver was the youngest of 12 children born to John GODFREY, engraver and Mary Ann CARTER, born May 4, 1863 in the Edmonton (Hornsey) district of London England. Oliver appears on the 1881 British census living with his parents as an apprentice photographer at the age of 17. We�ve been unable to find when Oliver arrived in Australia, however he�s next found marrying Matilda Kate ROUT in Sydney NSW Australia on June 1, 1885. Matilda, 1861-1837, was the daughter of Charles ROUT and Sarah PEARCE born in Balmain NSW Australia. A photographer, Oliver died June 16, 1933 in Chatswood NSW Australia with his death certificate providing a middle name which is not shown on either his birth nor marriage certificates. Oliver also had two brothers and a nephew who left London for Australia and New Zealand. Charles Carter GODFREY, b. 1861, a seal engraver arrived in Melbourne Australia in 1883. He married Ellen McSWEENEY in 1885. Two children were born, Rose Mary Godfrey in 1885 and John Godfrey in 1887 before returning to England where the family is found on the 1901 British Census living in Croydon Surrey. Louis GODFREY, b.1858, an artist, photographer and engraver lived in the Hunter Valley region in Australia from about 1893-4, however lived in Riverhead New Zealand from abt. 1895 � 1925 before retiring to Sylvania NSW Australia where he died in 1940. Louis� second marriage was to Fanny Elizabeth HARDING 1875-1962 and two daughters were born in New Zealand, Violet Godfrey in 1896 and Una Godfrey in 1906. Louis� eldest son, from his first marriage, Louis Francis GODFREY 1882 � 1954 accompanied his father from London and remained in New Zealand where he married Lucy May GERNER in 1905 and had 4 children. Ronald Hurley Gerner Godfrey, Oliver Cyril Godfrey, Marjory May Godfrey and Phyllis Godfrey. The arrival of Louis Godfrey, Louis Francis Godfrey and Fanny Elizabeth Harding to Australia has never been established. They are found on the 1891 British census living in Croydon Surrey.
