I was told that at the end of July, legislation was passed so that the Electoral Commission has curtailed access to the Electoral Rolls to only the State they are in. ie. Queenslanders can only look at the Qld Electoral Rolls at their local District Office. If I wanted to see the whole of Australia, I have to go into the Head Office in the city (Brisbane). I was told that the same thing had happened in other states as well. So NSW people can only have access to NSW Electoral Rolls, and so on, and if they want to look up other states they have to go to the Electoral Roll Head Office in Sydney. How RUDE!! I rang my local member to complain, and after enquiries were made, was told that the reasons were to curtail the commercial companies using the rolls as a selling instrument, and to stop debt collectors using it. The only reason people can look up their own state is to see if they and/or members of their family are enrolled correctly. So now thanks to commercial companies, we can no longer look up people in states other than the one we live in.
