Hi listers I too am looking for Sweeney ancestors. John Thomas Sweeney married Johanna Irwin 6/12/1866 at Young NSW John was supposedly born 1846 in Sydney but found no trace and he could be the issue of a convict and thus not registered. Johanna was born in 1847 Yass her f. John m. Johanna. John became a hotel keeper sadly I have not found their deaths yet. A death 1918 for John Thomas Sweeney is not him, and a death 1903 for Johanna is the daughter. They had 10 known children: 1/ John Thomas 1867-1927 wed Evelyn/Eveline Hines/Hynes 1890 Young. 2/ Margaret Jane 1868-1934 Wagga wed[1] 1884 Bulla Creek Young to William Wallace 1857-1912 wed[2] 1929 Edward Pratt 3/ James 1870-1937 Inverell wed 1895 Grenfell to Mary Ann Jane Pettit 4/ Letitia 1872-1875 5/ Jane Caroline 1875-1963 Nth Sydney wed 1896 Grenfell to Bennett Stimson 6/ Arthur/William 1876-??? Wed 1895 West Wyalong to Bridget Harris 7/ Thomas 1878-1921 wed ??? 8/ Johanna Catherine 1880-1903 Grenfell u/wed 9/ Elizabeth Letitia 1882-1882 Young 10/ Albert George 1884-1935 Randwick wed 1910 Grenfell to Ellen Allison Jacobs Would love to hear form anyone connected. Dear Irene, I found the following John's on the Pioneer index. Any or all could be your John. Very few of our ancestors are born the year they say they were and these are within 5 years of your John Thomas. Not having a second name means nothing.
