The Sun Herald November 8 1953 Social News and Gossip The engagement was announced last week of Australia's first George Medal winner in the Korean War, Warrant Officer Tom Murray, to Miss Marlene Case. Miss Case is the youngest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Tom Case, of Walcha: her fiance is the second son of Mr. And Mrs. Frank Murray, of Walcha. W/O Murray won his decoration in 1951 for heroism as a stretcher-bearer. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Logan, of Killoran, Narrabri, have decided on the names Ross Robert, for their second son, who was born at the Narrabri District Hospital on Tuesday. The Singleton Matrons' Ball was held in the showground pavilion on Friday to return hospitality to the bachelors and spinsters of the district. The Ball was arranged by the secretary, Miss Elizabeth Bowman, and Mr. Michael Bowman, assisted by a committee including Mesdames Abbott, Stacy, M. Lloyd Jones, Rabie Moore, and Hazel Bowman. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Creer arrived back in Newcastle this week after a holiday trip to Japan. Newcastle visitors in Singleton are Mrs. B Cowden and Miss Pat Wansey, who are the guests of Mrs. Cowden's sister , Mrs. John Bentley. The Sun Herald November 8 1953 Social News and Gossip At the Cudgegong C.W.A. meeting Mrs. Clive Sheppard was elected president; Mrs. I. Oaks, secretary; and Mrs. L. M. Oaks, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Cook, of Newcastle, are expected home this week-end after a fortnights holiday at Craigieburn, Bowral. Mrs. A. de RUSSELL, has returned to Balgowlah after spending a holiday with the Rev. W. A. Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy at Gulgong. A number of farewell parties are being held in Newcastle for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davis, of New Lambton, who leave at the end of this month for Sydney where they will make their home. Hostesses at parties this week include Mrs. Garth Pritchard and Mrs. G. Stephenson. Dr. and Mrs. IVAN SCHALIT have returned to Newcastle after three weeks' holiday in the Forster district. Mr. and Mrs. S. Beeston, of Newcastle, who motored to Melbourne for the Cup, stayed there to meet their daughter Elizabeth, who returned to Australia in the Mooltan after twelve months touring England and the Continent.
