The Sydney Morning Herald has an RSVP column, email Rsvp@smh.com.au. Saturday appears to be the best day for family history entries although the column is available daily. The Ryerson Index has past smh rsvp entries in their suplementary indexes. I have not checked but maybe it is worth checking the on-line editions of the major newspapers of each state to see if they run similiar columns. The Seniors Newspaper does have a column as well. Hope this helps someone. Roseanne Mid North Coast of NSW --------------------------------- On Yahoo!7 PS Trixi - Check in weekly for the latest episode

Dear David, I saw your message about Newspaper columns. I have no knowledge about what other papers have them, I am interested in who I would contact about the In Touch column?? My mother is hitting a few brick walls and that could be an option for her to access other relatives that may have the missing pieces of information. Regards Nicole NORTHERN NSW
Does anyone know of any newspapers (any state) that have a column similar To the Daily Telegraph's "In Touch" column? Earlier this year I sent in an entry for the "In Touch" column and it Resulted in a contact for a long missing branch of my family. It's been Amazing how much info has eventuated from this one contact, including a Photo of my Gt Gt Grandmother, which I'd given up hope of ever finding. I'd like to try and contact other lines in this family, so thought perhaps, If relatives live in other states now, I might find them using a similar Method. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've listed below a brief outline of the families I'm hoping to find. Wilson Cawthorne David WRIGHT (1878-1939) married Martha Myra M KELLY. Known children - James Wilson WRIGHT (1905-1966) and John H WRIGHT (? - 1928) Harry WRIGHT (1880-1955) (Not known if Harry married, assume he probably Did) Fred WRIGHT (1891-1962) possibly married Adelina GEORGY. Sophia Gertrude WRIGHT (1893-1974) married Walter S CRAIG in 1917 in Newtown NSW. >From my contact with descendants of Sophia's older sister, Mary Elizabeth, I Have discovered that she was probably known as Gertrude or "Gertie". She's Remembered as Aunt Gertie. Wilson, Harry, Fred and Sophia, along with Mary and Florence (I have Contacts for Mary's line, and Florence never married) were siblings of my Gt Grandfather Arthur WRIGHT. Their parents were David WRIGHT and Sophia CAWTHORNE. Sometime after 1893 David left his wife Sophia in Sydney with the children And returned to Queensland. Their eldest child Arthur and stayed in Queensland and from what I can establish, had little or no contact with his Mother and siblings. >From my contact with descendants of Mary Elizabeth, I have some photo's Which show family members in a Salvation Army Band. It's possible that Sophia and the children became members of the Salvation Army after David Left them. Any help in contacting descendants of these families would be greatly Appreciated. Looking forward to your thoughts. Regards David Sunshine Coast Queensland

I am going through my genealogy files and getting rid of duplicates, those that don't belong and I found: Marriage registered in NSW for a John Brush to Frances Moore which took place on December 28, 1869 -- he was a widower and she a spinster and both were born in Ireland. There is other information, such as the name of the Church, et al. Birth for: (1) Alice, whose parents are John and Frances Moore Brush, was born on October 17, 1870 John is 56 and Frances is 38 Complete, that is city and country, birth place of both parents, as well as other information, including gives names of witnesses to the birth (2) Frederick, whose parents are John and Frances Moore Brush, was born on April 19, 1872. John is 58 and Frances is 40. Gives names of witnesses to the birth. (3) William, whose parents are John and Frances Moore Brush, was born on August 13, 1874. John is 60 and Frances is 43. Record shows that there is 1 male and 2 females living, and 1 female deceased. There is an endorsement: 2nd marriage: 1869 in Sydney with 1 male and 1 female living. I guess that must pertain to John and his first marriage since he was a widower when he married Frances. (4) Death certificate for William Brush, a male 20 years of age, died on March 13, 1895. There are additional columns which include: "cause of death, duration of last illness, , et al and the name and occupation of father and the name and maiden surname of the mother, and then the informant is shown as Fred Brush, brother. Other information in more columns. (5) Death certificate of Frederick Brush, a male 25 years , 11 months, died on March 16, 1898. Informant was Alice Brush, sister. (6) Death certificate of Frances Moore Brush, female 80 years, who died on July 28, 1912. Informant was Alice, Brush, daughter. (7) Death certificate of John Brush, male 59 years old. Parents: John Brush and Louisa Smith. Informant is B. H. Brush, son. (8) Death certificate of John Reginald Brush, male 8 months old. Parents: Alfred Brush and Lavinia Wallington. Informant is Alfred Brush, father. I will be happy to send any and all of the certificates to someone who belongs to them. I must have ordered them over the years and found that they are not mine. My John and Maria Brown Moore had a daughter named Frances Eliza, and someone told me she married a "Brush" but this is not mine. Please do contact me off list so that we do not bother anyone!!! Have a great day and a greater weekend. Lorraine Moore Bsaton Rouge, LA
Hi Anne, I did a quick search at Gould in South Australia and they sell the CDs. Try this link http://www.gould.com.au/default.asp?pageid=ProductCatalog&template=PRODUCTCA TALOG&catid=658&oid=6290B65C-0CFF-44A7-9F1F-143517D84B6D and it should bring up a number of CDs for NSW. You want the Federation Index which includes the births (and deaths and marriages) from 1889 to 1918, taking you past the 1905 that is available on the search page for NSW BDMs. They aren't cheap but they are extremely valuable to have. Hi Listers, I have just seen a couple of replies that mention this CD, can anybody give me more info, re price and where it can be purchased. Regards, Anne Clark, In Sydney.
Hi Lorraine, You won't find any information other than baptismal registers in NSW before 1856. It became compulsory at that time to register all events, births, deaths and marriages, but before then, it was only Church registers that were kept, so it was the minimal information you have found. Deaths are even worse as they don't list the parents names unless you are extremely lucky. Unfortunately all the children you mentioned will not be found other than in church registers. After 1856, you can be unlucky too sometimes, as it took a while for the 'law' to catch up with some places and for some time during the late 1800s, the marriages did not list parents names and other very important data because of a feud between the church and government by the churches refusing to list anything but the names and dates of the married parties. That can be extremely frustrating too! Other states might have had slightly different compulsory starting dates, but they are all around that time period, and followed the motherland - Scotland began in 1855 and England started in 1837. As for the BDM CDs, they go past the 1905 cut-off and record births up until 1918. These are available at Family History groups and some libraries have them as well. I have them but won't be home today to do any lookups for you. If no one else gives you the information during the day, email me this afternoon and I'll try to do them for you tonight. Hi there I am searching for information about Edward GOSTELOW (b. abt 1802 in BUCKS, d. 1866 in Sydney) or variations on this name. Married Sarah POTTER in 1824 in BUCKS He came to Australia in ? 1848. Gets confused from here as I can't find anymore about him ie where he lived other than mention of Surry St in Sydney. One of his sons was Ebenezer Edward Gostelow/Gostklow whose son (of the same name) was a well known artist painting birds and wildflowers The son I'm interested in is John b. 1835, d. 1894 (Callan Park hospital, of epilepsy and exhaustion). Is anyone aware of this line of the Gostelow's at all and perhaps suggest where I could find further information on where they lived in Sydney? Thanks a lot Meegan
Dear Listers, Could anyone tell me how to access birth details for NSW after 1905?? Regards Nicole Northern NSW
