I am wanting to make contact with anyone who can tell me about 2 jockey's named Jim Pike who was a regular rider of Phar Lap in Australia and the jockey Charlie Miller who died in a fall at Balranald in May 1824. Both these people were known to my grandmother's family who lived in Broken Hill and I have notes written by my grandmother of things they did or things they gave her. I presume they would have been well known in Broken Hill and wondered if they even had family there, or perhaps a racing historian might know more about them or can steer me in the right direction. Jim Pike was a relative by marriage to the Ward, Dance and Brobble families and Charlie Miller was a close friend of my grandmother. Any help would be gratefully received. Hi Listers, Thought it was about time I put my names up here - looking for anyone connected with Walter Henry BARNES c. 1900- especially looking for his death. And any BEILBY going way back. Thanks, Liz South Aust
Some time back I sort feedback on list members who had success stories in making contact with others on the list who were tracing the same names. I had a few replies. To those who did reply, thank you very much. Of the replies I got, 50% had a success story and 50% hadn't had success yet. I don't know whether these results are indicative of all list members - I suspect that they are not. As I mentioned at the time I too have had some successes. I wish all list members success with their research. There are currently 253 members on this mailing list. If you have been considering posting you surnames, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Now may be a good time to do so. 253 recipients for your surname query is quite a large audience As the list administrator, if I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at the above email address. Cheers of now - Ian.

Dear All Does anyone know if there are any books that mention Captain John Pike c 1845. He was an officer in the 73rd regiment and a Pastoralist who had a string of properties from the Hunter Valley to Southern Queensland such as Glenguie, Tabulam West, Woodenbong and Pikedale in QLND. He died at Tours in France in 1863 and in his will he made a number of bequests to charities in Queensland. I am trying to find out the location of Captain Pikes stations around the 1845 period particularly in the Maitland or Clarence River areas and whether there are any records of convicts who were assigned to him. Does anyone know where I can start to look for this this information. Kindest Regards Alice
