    1. James Blair and family (Sydney)
    2. Nick Batley
    3. Hello fellow listers, This is my first message to this list - having joined the list just recently, I thought that I might as well put in my penny's worth, and see what may come of it. I am looking for descendants of my g-g-g great uncle James BLAIR, b c1817 in Liverpool, England (son of James BLAIR and Jane MOORHEAD). James married Elizabeth CABLE in 1837 in Bristol, England, and they susbsequently migrated to Australia, arriving in NSW in 1841 per the vessel "Victoria". James and Elizabeth lived in Canterbury, NSW during the 1840's, and later moved to Market Street and Sussex Streets in Sydney, where James was a timber merchant, and later on, the licensee of the Bristol Arms Hotel. James died in 1880 in Sydney, while Elizabeth died in 1887. The children of James and Elizabeth BLAIR were as follows: James Edwin (I) - b 1838 Bristol, d 1855 Sydney Charles - b 1843 Sydney, d 1859 Sydney Francis - b 1845 Canterbury, d 1893 Randwick, NSW (m Mary Ann HOPGOOD 1862 Sydney) Emma - b 1847 Sydney, d ? (m Alexander NICHOLSON 1864 Sydney) Mary Jane - b 1850 Sydney, d ? (m John DONALDSON 1866 Sydney) Sydney Richard - b 1853 Sydney, d 1853 Sydney James Edwin (II) - b 1855 Sydney, d 1887 Sydney (m Kitty M A HORWOOD 1877 Sydney) Sydney John - b 1858 Sydney, d 1860 Sydney In particular I am interested in the fate of Emma and Mary Jane - Emma and her husband Alexander NICHOLSON disappear after their marriage, while Mary Jane and her husband John DONALDSON and their children were living in Sydney in the 1880's but just seem to disappear after that. I have not ruled out the possibility that either of these two ladies and their husbands and families may have moved interstate or to New Zealand. I would most grateful to hear from any descendants, or anybody else researching these families. Thanks, Nick Batley Sydney ###################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned and cleared by MailMarshal http://www.marshalsoftware.com ######################################################################

    1. NICHOLS NICHOLLS
    2. Robert Heal
    3. Interested in Elizabeth NICHOLS, born Mendooran NSW early 1850s, married Henry Edward NEW at Denison Town 1876 died (apparently unregistered) before 1898. Henry and Elizabeth had 5 children of which 2 died. Also Mary NICHOLLS, who was the second wife of Henry's father, Thomas NEW ( b. 1827 England, died 1914 at Bondi Junction ). Mary and Thomas seem to have married in 1891 and had no children. There was a Mary NICHOLLS present at the birth in 1875 of Jessie, the last child of Thomas and his first wife Jane (CURTIS) NEW (1832-1884). She may be the same Mary who married Thomas 16 years later. There seem to have been quite a few early NICHOLS/NICHOLLS. Does anybody know of any families which were early settlers in the Talbragar River district ? Robert

    2. Jenny Wellington
    3. Hi To All Members, Marriage transcription for John Riley and Mary Ann White (Gunnedah 13-4-1870)does not state either birth place, date or parents names for either party. Father gave consent to marriage so perhaps family immigrated together. Children's births state Mary Ann born in Bedford, England c 1854. The following maybe totally unrelated but as it is the only lead I have at the moment thought I would give it a try. A White family arrived 25-2-1855 Botany Bay via Ascendant. Thomas 35, Elizabeth 30, Emily Ann 7, Benjamin J 5, John 3, Mary Ann infant. I would be grateful for any info re this family. Happy researching, Jenny.
