I finally got more information on my husband's grandfather, Cornelius Alexander MOORE, who was born in New South Wales and came to the U. S. to attend a Bible College in Lexington, KY. Following is some information a friend sent me from a Bible College he attended in the U.S.: MOORE, ALEXANDER CORNELIUS (OR CORNELIUS ALEXANDER); deceased; came to C. of B. from Maryloro [sic], Victoria, Australia; Diploma, English Course, C. of B., 1878; returned to Australia in 1882, preaching at Melbourne one year; ill-health caused rest for 18 months, when he began two years' work at Dunedin (Tabernacle), N.Z.; Minister at Camden Point, Mo., 1887-91; President, Female Orphan School, same place, 1892-96; in 1896 his address was Judy, Montgomery Co., Ky., where he was preaching. I wonder if SKS could tell me if there is anyway I could get any information from Melbourne or at the Dunedin (Tabernacle) in N.Z. where he evidently did some preaching after he returned to NSW and before he emigrated again to the U. S. Thanks much -- I have not been able to find anything about his parents, who were John and Maria Brown MOORE. There are too many John Moores and none with a Maria on the BMD records online. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at [email protected] before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J. Hi Paul and Judy Many thanks for responding. I have searched the bmd for my Newton's and have found the entries for the years available and have transcriptions. My attempts at finding their descendants are running thin. Now I am following connected lines in the hope of finding a connection somewhere. I have placed postings on rootsweb and Australian online names directory (etc)and have advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald and Daily telegraph. Genealogy is the fastest growing hobby ( after home improvements) and I am told that many Australians trace their ancestry, but it appears not mine. Perhaps my family are busy transforming their homes!! Once again many thanks kind regards joy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Kinney" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 7:55 AM Subject: [A-NSW-S] FW: AUS-NSW-SURNAMES-D Digest V04 #95 Message No. 1 > > Dear Joy, > The Newton family should have plenty of records in NSW. Hi Carol Sorry don't know your John Bowmer - but seem to remember there being a Bowmer Street around Rockdale /Arncliffe. Napper Family were a very prominent name in Rockdale until approx late 70's - early 80's. Had produce store and Fruit & Veg stores in Rockdale etc. Electoral Rolls may help here. Hi everyone I am researching the name NEWTON and have found a marriage of Sarah Ann to Harold Phillip EVANS 1916 at Marrickville Municipality at the Methodist church Stanmore. I'm not having much luck on the Newton line, so am trying my luck with the Evans in the hope of finding a connection. Harold Phillip EVANS born 1892/3 in Lithgow, his parents were Phillip EVANS and Emily Alice BANNING, (Emma on bmd) A marriage witness was WA EVANS. A bit of detective work and I found William Abraham EVANS born 13 jun 1894 on the WW2 website born at Lithgow. The BMD shows parents were Philip and Emma. I then found a marriage of William A EVANS to Doris ARMSTRONG in 1916 at Marrickville. Harold and William's parents Philip EVANS and Emily BANNING married in 1889 at Lithgow. Another marriage witness was L HUGHES, this is lily Sarah's step sister. A bit of a long shot, but you never know!! thanks for listening happy hunting joy
Hi Everyone I am searching for a George Alfred SMITH who married Anne Henderson CAMERON in 1900 at Marlee, NSW (near Wingham). George was helping re-build the Marlee bridge between 1898 and 1900. Someone has mentioned that he was a "hard-hat diver" employed to help build this bridge. Does anyone have any details on him and where he came from (eg: Sydney) to work on the Marlee bridge. Is there a list of "hard-hat divers" in the 1898 to 1900s? George Alfred Smith died in 1952 at Lambton (Newcastle). His marriage certificate, 1900, says his father was John and his mother was Elizabeth and were both deceased at the time of marriage. He was born about 1874/75. Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards Heather
I am interested in contacting descendants of Joseph Barker. Information from his birth certificate is as follows: Full name: Joseph William Barker Born: Bexley, Kent, England (Markall Lane, Bexley) When: 20 June 1857 Parents: John Barker and Mary (Pickett) Barker The 1881 British Census lists Joseph with his wife, Mary, and son, Frank, age 1 month old. He was living at 8 Edward St., Newington, Surrey, England at the time. Records from Barnardos shows Joseph and his family moved to Australia sometime before 17 Oct 1898 and was living at Crayford Cottage, Livingstone Road, Marshville, Sidney, Australia. I would appreciate hearing from any of his descendants and learning more about Joseph and his family. Helen
I am trying to contact Lawrence Jude Jones regarding our family connection through John McFarlane and Grizel Johnston. Regards Jenny

Hi everyone Reposting my updated interests. Sarah Ann NEWTON born 1890 at Lithgow her parents were Charles Henry NEWTON and Sarah Ann Nee GENDERS, prev HUGHES. In 1916 Sarah married Harold Philip EVANS, son of Phillip Evans and Emily Alice Banning. Sarah and Harold had a son Rodney Harold EVANS born 1917. His birth place on the nsw bmd site is given as Petersham. But I have found his RAAF enlisting details on the WW2 Nominal Roll his birthplace is Leichhardt. Also on his RAN enlisting his birthplace is listed as Sydney. Have found a marriage of Rodney Evans at Rockdale to Mary Patricia Lawson in 1940. Can anyone connect to this family. Would welcome any information. Thanks for listening kind regards joy
Hello listers, I am looking for descendants of WISEMAN family. I need to verify whether an individual (I presumed to be still alive or is deceased quite recently) is from the line of Solomon WISEMAN, of the Wiseman's Ferry - Laban William WISEMAN. I cannot find his parentage, but I am putting his birth year around to 1910s. He married a Alison D R BROOMFIELD in 1940 at Sydney NSW. Thanks in advance, Darlene Thornton Sydney, NSW
