Looking for any information on the :- VENESS, LOUAT or VERON families who may have at one time owned a property at Guildford NSW. The house (now a hospital) is situated on the corner of Hawksview St. & Chetwynd Rd. Guildford. The house has had a few names such as : "Mimosa", possibly "Veness Memorial Hall" or "Veness House" then was known as the Guildford Heights Hospital and is now the Holroyd Private Hospital. Would like to make contact with anyone who may information or photos about this house and the families who lived there. Mrs. Louat was supposedly quite a well known opera singer. Thanking you in anticipation, Dorothy Warwick [email protected]

Hi Judy, I do not THINK so - but anything can happen! There is however, no indication so far that that may have happened, but I will keep it in mind. Mine were originally Germans from Wurtemburg. Hello Julie Frank Westall born 28/8/1919 Rozelle, mother Amy http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/veteran.asp?ServiceID=A&VeteranID=123683 you could also try the Rockwood Cemetery Transcripts or the NSW Probate Records Regards Alan
Julie, Can't help with your problem, however, just for general information, NSW births are not on public access after 1918, so not possible to find any children of the Westall marriage. NSW marriages and deaths only on public access to 1945 (and are on-line - births up to 1905 on line too) so can't give you details of Amy's death in 1948. www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ and search the historical indexes Re the divorce bit: I presume you are looking in NSW? There are some divorce records available at NSW State Records, BUT they aren't indexed by year or alphabetically, but if they are indexed at all are indexed under the name of the judge who tried the case!! And not all of them have survived - it's a bit hit and miss and you would have to go to the State Records office in Sydney to look at them (not easy from QLD unless you want to have your hols in NSW). The cases of divorce coming up to be heard were often listed in the Sydney Morning Herald - but rather tedious to go through them all unless you had a good idea of the date. If you wanted detail of deaths after 1945 then you would need to apply directly to the Registry of BDM in Sydney - if you aren't sure of the dates you want, they will do a search for you - I think around $28 per ten year search. Hi folks Julie from QLD again. Would SKS who has access to NSW BDM be able to find a death for a CHARLES WESTALL born England Abt 1879 parents JAMES WESTALL and EDITH ALLEN? He married in 1918 to AMY MILLER born England Abt 1887 her parents were JAMES MILLER and MARY MARCH. I have that marriage certificate. Plus I am after birth registration details of any children born into this Westall marriage post 1918 please? Apparently Amy Westall died in 1948 and I would like the registration details please? I would also like to find death details for ALMA CONSTANCE MILLER nee KERSHAW, she was married to ANTHONY JACOB MILLER in 1903 (I have the marriage certificate) her parents were JAMES KERSHAW and MARYANN MARCH his parents were FRANZ MULLER and AGNES JUSTUS. I would be interested in knowing how many children Anthony and Alma actually had please? I know of my Grandma Ethel Mary Miller in 1914 (I have her certificates) but I don't have registration numbers for her brothers Selby born in 1906 and Mervyn born in 1911 I do not know when they died either. I do have marriage for Selby from NSW BDM site. Apparently ANTHONY JACOB MILLER died in the 1960's and I am after his death registration details too please? Does anyone know where I can find divorce details around WW1 time? Because I am having trouble with Alma Constance Miller nee Kershaw being called by the surname Westall eg Grandma Westall in the 1940's while Anthony Miller lived in a shed in her backyard. It is so mysterious whatwith some family secrets different members of the family believed that ALMA was actually AMY!! It is confusing but the only thing I can think of is that ALMA pretended to be AMY in order to marry CHARLES WESTALL WHILE ANTHONY was returning from WW1 (I HAVE HIS SERVICE RECORDS) On an old photo taken of him returning from war (he was discharged med unfit 5 months prior to the Westall marriage) the words inscribed in typed print says he is "the brother of Mrs Westall" just to confuse things even more. I searched NSW BDM to see if one of Anthony's sisters married a Westall but to no avail. Any thoughts would be most appreciated in helping to solve this mystery because I just want to know who is who and who married who? Thank you for reading this loooong letter but I could not think of any other way to explain my dilemma. Have a great day. Kind regards Julie
I am new to this list and am hoping someone can help me trace my family. William John HARDING (known by his middle name) was living in Mort St Moore Park Sydney in 1938. He is the son of William HARDING and Mary Agnes FLYNN m Melbourne 1888. He enlisted and fought in the first World War on 2 occassions, the second time from Junee in 1917. He is my grandmother's brother and I would like to know more of him and his descendants. Anyone knowing this family please make contact. regards Evelyn
Hi Julie here again I wish to post my surname interests with my other family line the Justus and Muller/Miller family. JOHANN JUSTUS was one of 6 winegrowers and their families to emigrate from Germany in arriving in Sydney on 22nd April 1838. They settled around the Camden area working on the property of William Macarthur the brother of Major Edward Macarthur. Major Macarthur recruited this first group of Germans with winegrowing skills. His wife was APPOLONIA PETRI and their daughter AGNES JUSTUS (sometimes misspelt JUSTICE) married FRANZ MELCHIOR MULLER in 1856. FRANZ MELCHIOR MULLER was the son of FRANZ ANTON MULLER born in Jagstfeld Wurtemburg Germany and MARIA JULIANNA SCHWAIGER from Hagenbach. They emigrated to Australia in 1855 with their 4 children and had 4 more in Australia. My KERSHAW line comes in when my Great Grandad ANTHONY JACOB MILLER son of Franz M Muller and Agnes Justus married my Great Grandma ALMA CONSTANCE KERSHAW in 1903. The name Muller changed to Miller for some members of the family. If anyone has an interest in this please contact me. I am particularly interested in the JUSTUS family as I have little info on them except for Agnes. Thank you for reading this and for any help I receive. Kind regards Julie from QLD
Hi I am new to this list and thought I would post my direct ancestors surname. SOLOMON KERSHAW and his wife ANNE BUTTERWORTH emigrated to Australia early 1800's. Their son JAMES KERSHAW born in Manchester also emigrated and married MARY ANN MARCH also from England. Mary Ann was the daughter of THOMAS JAMES MARCH AND CHARLOTTE THOMESTON PLUMMER who both came over from England as well. Most of the family lived in the Gundaroo, Bungendore, Yass, Queanbeyan, Gunning, Braidwood areas. I have a fair bit of info to share and would like to contact other researchers with interests in this family. I am keen to find details regarding their ancestors from England before they came to Australia. Thank you for any help that anyone can give me. Have a great day Kind regards Julie
Dear Christine, There are two newspapers in the Shoalhaven and Nowra area. They are: 1. Shoalhaven and Nowra News published by Rural Press Ltd Phone: 02 4421 2999; 2. the South Coast (Nowra) Register. ( Established 1885) this one is published by Rural Press as well. They should be able to help put you in touch with a local historical society or group who would have copies of newspapers prior to there own, hopefully. Dear Helen, Send your written request to the following address and you will receive a response in 12 to 16 weeks. They are slow off the mark, but this is the only source of records for naval personnel available today. Staff Officer Navy Records Corporate Services Queanbeyan Annex Russell Offices Department of Defence Canberra ACT 2600 It will help if you have the person's service number, this in actual fact will facilitate a faster search, but if it is not available give them all the detail you can, place of enlistment, d.o.b., next of kin, etc etc even ships the person served on if known. You will have to understand that the Navy is the worst of the services at keeping records, where it has been politically expedient for the Navy and the government records have been misplaced, lost, thrown over the side even. Hope this helps!
