Per "Glatton", 1803 1810 Jan 9 Granted certificate of freedom (Reel 6038; SZ758 p.55) Source http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/ Then way back in England... Eleanor Absalom, victim in trial of Amos Stokes, theft: shoplifting, 14 Jan 1726. Amos Stokes, (a Boy ) of St. James Clerkenwell, was indicted for a Trespass, in unlawfully entring the Shop of Eleanor Absalom, with an Intention to steal her Goods, on the 15th of December, about 7 at Night HMS Glatton from London 23rd Sep 1802 to Sydney 11th Mar 1803 via Rio de Janeiro. The Glatton sailed with 270 male and 135 female prisoners, of which 7 male and 5 female died. Also on board were around 34 free settlers. Note that the passenger list has recommendations in the notes column. The day before anchoing in the Cove, around 100 sick people were transferred to the Supply and about 50 of those were transferred soon after to the hospital on shore. Most of those who were ill recovered very quickly.
