    3. Hi Joan I had a few twigs on our JONES branches in the area during this time. There was a major flood and many families left the area - some of mine came back to Parramatta the others went further north to the Taree area. There was a cedar/gold boom up the Araluen and the town of Nelligen (just west of Batemans Bay) was in a boom then the flood came in the late 60's - 1868 from memory. The three lines I have been looking at all left in 1869 or 1870. I had wondered why so I stopped in at Nelligen next time I was in the area - and the local sign tells of this flood which wiped out a large part of the town.
