I am after any information on the Went family in the Bega Valley area. They moved around a bit and I have traces them to Bemagui, Moruya, and several other places but they are all in the Bega Valley. My grandfather, Allan Gordon Went was born in Tilba Tilba in 1920. Anyone with information would be a great help. Nicole

Hello Nicole. I strongly recommend you to get hold of most of the publications of the Bega Valley Genealogy Society Inc.; wherein you will find much information about WENT families. If you are not familiar with this group, their address is: P.O. Box 19, Pambula, NSW 2549. Last year they published their "Bega Valley Pioneer Register: Pre-Federation". Its index has 23 WENT references. Their "Index to Death Registers 1871-1918 Held at Bega Courthouse" has 11 WENT references. The index to their 4 volumes of "Monumental Inscriptions in the Bega Valley Shire", shows WENT burials at: Bega, Bermagui, Candelo, Cobargo, Pambula & Wolumla. Several of their other publications have some WENT entries as well. They also hold a master index by surname at their Society, from which you can pay vry reasonable amounts for them to make photocopies, and for their research time, to provide to you. In addition they publish a regular journal: "The Valley Genealogist". You may of course become a member of the Society. If I recall correctly, they also have a web-site. However I cannot find a reference to it in their publications. Nevertheless, a "google" etc. search, should find it for you. Good Luck, there is a mine of information there for you.
