    3. Cassie, Have you tried the Briths Deaths and Marriages website www.bdm.nsw.gov.au for index to Births and how to apply for a copy of the birth certificate ($22.50) or using the index to define the year, go to a NSW or other State/local Library that has bdm microfiche and print copy of pages for cost of copying (abou $1 but copy may be difficult to read and not as presentable but you could try this first before spending more money on copy from bdm website (if she was born in Australia). You can also visit their office at 191 Thomas St, Haymarket NSW 2000 or phone: 1300655236. If she was not born in Australi, check the NSW State Records website www.records.nsw.gov.au for Assisted and unassisted passengers on ships and search by surname and if there's a match it will show the person's name, ship name, age when travelled and if "with family" on same ship, year of travel to NSW, reel number of microfiche to check at NSW State Library in Sydney www.sl.nsw.gov.au or other library which may have a copy of the microfiche for you to see the whole record for that ship and pick out your person. The passenger list will tell you the name (+ any family that came too), where they came from, occupation, religion, parents' names and where they were from, if person could read/write, if any family already in colony of NSW. If she came into a port in another State other than NSW, there are links to some of these indexes as well. The NSW State records office is in Sydney CBD . You can also use bdm website death certificate application form and fax or mail it requesting this. You can get it even after 1945 when index stops as 30 years after a death this becomes public record and is available without proof of next of kin for a fee of $29. If you don't know the year you can ask for a 10 year range search for this price. The website shows births up to 1905 (before Privacy Act comes in) and marriages and deaths up to 1945. You can also obtain marriages after 1945 if the date was more than 50 years ago or if both parties are dead, then after 30 years by getting the application off the website and faxing or mailing this. You could probably send them an email attaching the application form and use credit card payment. Good luck. Noeleen, Sydney Australia. (new to list). Sorry about the lengthy reply but I thought all this relevant to give Cassie a good start. I am new to the list/any list and if this size reply is a no-no for such a list, please let me know so I don't do this again and annoy everyone. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Murray Calder" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 28, 2003 7:59 PM Subject: schoenfeld/johnson > Am researching one Elsie Johnson nee Schoenfeld.
