    3. Hello Listers, I am hoping that someone in the list has knowledge of a Captain William J Greig who is buried at Eden cemetery NSW. He was buried with his wife Margaret Davidson and their daughter Elsy. He died at sea out of Port Jackson in 1851? and she passed a year later. I found his marriage on BDM in 1848 but cannot find William or Margaret's deaths.I am wondering if someone knows the background history on him. 3. Rob, The Eden Monumental Inscriptions doesn't have any matching entry that I could see.Interestingly among the headstones at Eden was a "William Alexander GREIG, died 27 June 1980, aged 93 years 6 months. Last of the Eden Whalers." Section A row 5 grave 19 In section E row 6 grave 247 is " James C Davidson, husband and father, died 21 November 1985, aged 87 years. The last of the Whalers." Perhaps a google search looking for whaling at Eden might throw up some interesting information. I had another look after writing the above using the spelling GREGG Sect A row 1 grave 5: "Captain William J Gregg, out of Port Jackson, died at sea latitude 25.55.0, longitude 153.14.0, 25 August 1851, aged 28 years; also Margaret Helen Davidson, his wife, died at Kiah 12 June 1852, aged 22 years; also Elsy Jane, their infant daughter, aged 3 months & 20 days." While the headstone says out of Port Jackson, the compass bearings suggests somewhere near the bottom of Fraser Island.Tin Can Bay is 25.55. and 153.00. Double Island Point is 25.57. and 153.11 Was William chasing whales in Hervey Bay? I wonder how long it took for news of her husband's death to reach Margaret in Kiah/Eden.
